Re: the band/eric clapton

Thanksgiving Evening 1976 at Winterland in San Francisco. It was almost impossible to get a hold of a ticket, at the then outrageous price of $25 as I recall, but that included turkey dinner too. Bill Graham knew how to throw a party.

I'm confused.  When and where was that performed??

I know that Joe could play one of those kid's guitars with the plastic strings and make it sound good-

Re: the band/eric clapton

It's a sort of documentary film made by Martin Scorsese. It's titled "The last Walz" and Rolling Stone are quoted as saying it was "the best rock movie ever made"

It stars Dylan, Clapton, Neil Young, Joni Mitchel, Van Morrison, Neil Diamond, Emmylou Harris, Muddy Waters, The Staples, Ringo Star, Ron Wood, Dr John, PAul Butterfield, Ronnie Hawkins, the band - Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel and Robbie Robertson.

The DVD is a reproduction of the original film in 5:1 surround sound and is titled as the collectors edition

It's a bit contrived in places but a good watch

Libby,
It's definitely worth a watch if you can rent it...I thought it was good enough to own, so I bought it!  And today is Eric's 63rd birthday so HAPPY BIRTHDAY ERIC and thanks for the decades of music! smile

DUH!  This is why I should start going to bed a little earlier and STOP posting in the wee hours of the morning!!!

I am SO sorry.  I posted my reply about two hours after viewing the originally posted video.  MEANWHILE - as I'm sure happens to the rest of you as well - one youtube video led to another and we found ourselves watching THIS ONE, of Cream performing Stormy Monday.......  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5IdtqFf95g

When I came back to the thread MUCH LATER, I had the CREAM video in my head and then saw JDawg's comments about San Francisco in '76........my very tired brain was trying to make sense of the visual of those more mature men of Cream and the written info that JDawg left.......it DID NOT COMPUTE!!!  No wonder!!  Silly me.

Anyhoo, the Cream song is the one I had the question about!  My guess is that it was from that concert where they got back together two years ago or so - was it at Royal Albert Hall??  Am I right?  Is there a DVD of that??  Probably - this video looks to be professionally shot......

Regarding "The Last Waltz" - yes, I HAVE seen that one and I remember just LOVING it!!!  It seems to me that it was one of the first of that kind of thing......you know, where EVERYBODY who is ANYBODY shows up to pay their respects to an artist, or a band......

I think it's time to see it again......been WAY too long.

Thank you, as always, my little forum friends, for guiding me.  As I said, silly me.  You can now well imagine my confusion!!

Angela - indeed, a VERY Happy Birthday to Eric Clapton who is responsible for either creating, performing, or leading us toward MUCH of our favorite music!!!

Re: the band/eric clapton

I remember watching The Last Waltz on PBS when I was about 12 or so, and being so awestruck by all those great performers being at one show.  It was probably my first introduction to a few of them... actually, probably my first REAL introduction to The Band too, and I've been a fan ever since. smile

This reminds me of something else people here might enjoy.  A friend of mine who is a master taper often records this guy named Jim Weider and his band ProJECT PERCoLATor... he was with The Band for 10 years, replacing Robbie Robertson.  Here's a link to my friend's MP3 site where you can listen to that or a variety of other recordings of his... most shows are also available for lossless download on bt.etree or dimeadozen.  One of the Jim Weider shows should play automatically when you click here:
