Re: Reggae

This is my most favorite of all, it has everything, including killer guitar work. I have about 10 different performances on my HD.

By the way, don't mean to brag, but I was at the Rainbow for his most legendary gig. I still get goose bumps just thinking about that night.

Re: Reggae

My other main man is the legendary Winston Rodney, aka Burning Spear. Very difficult picking a favorite from his vast repertoire spanning more than 30 years, but this will do for a start.

Re: Reggae

(Tell them we didn't discuss this before you posted George) In the mid-late 70's I scorned all radio/TV and got turned on to Bob Marley.."Stir it Up" and "No Women No Cry" and I was hooked! They didn't even have any in the record store..never heard of reggae.."Look under imports" or "Try International".  ERG!  But, my fellow drop outs had many LP's..yes vinyl..
Eventually it grew in popularity and a small, local club had Third World..What a great night! Got to dance with the drummer Carrot.
Jump ahead to the 80's..I'm off to Jamaica, can't wait for great music. I only took enough cassettes (yes cassettes, we're getting better) for travel....WRONG....Now, We get on the bus from the airport to the resort and what do you think was on the radio?  BARRY MANILOW..I thought I had gone to H*LL....Mind you, every song was morphed to fit a ska rhythm. Even worse, it was the ONLY radio station. I think I wore out those cassettes.
Last time I went it was CD's and a boombox..(been a while). The cleaning lady loved my "old school" Bob Marley and my Ziggy. "Urban American" effects had reached the island.
There is a local band with overtones Kelly Bell..and Terrance Simeon has reggae along with cajun.

Yes George..    Irey eyes..    Jah Love..... I and I......  yeah?     Cathy

Re: Reggae

I saw UB40 two years ago this month and got turned on to their opening act, a young singer named Elan. I bought his 3 song EP that was for sale and couldn't get enough of it. As we listened to him my friend Tom and I couldn't believe how much he sounded like Bob Marley. Upon further research I found out he sang with The Wailers for a couple years after two girlfriends sent a tape of him doing karaoke to a Marley song in LA where he's from to the Wailers. He's also Hispanic, last name Attias and he's produced by Tony Kanal from No Doubt. Check him out if you haven't yet. I usually go old school when I bust the medicinal ganj 'mon, with my all time fave Lively Up from Natty Dread. Rememba 'mon, Jah S'eh and Jah rule.
