My father has a HD '98 Heritage Softail. He's rode bikes for longer than I have tainted this earth for, it's a wonder I don't ride. Well, no it isn't, I can't afford one of the things because I've got other expensive hobbies (el guitar). But he seems to have a lot of fun with it (belongs to a bunch of biker organizations and whatnot).
We ride. I love the smell of honeysuckle and freshly plowed earth in the spring, feeling a cool breeze on a hot summers night and having the wind in your face but not the bugs. I wish the 4 wheeled vehicles would be a little more aware of the 2 wheeled vehicles on the roads.
Hey Guys,
I ride a Ducati 916 Sp3.
What's it like riding in your part of the USA?
It's getting worse and worse here in England. The roads are crowded, they are riddled with pot holes and most decent stretches are getting fixed speed cameras installed bit by bit (and if they haven't got fixed cameras there's a good chance that the brave boys in blue will be hiding in a bush with a speed gun).
Still, as you so rightly say, looking forward to getting out there again.
Cheers,
Howie.

Jeff,
Very glad to see you wear a helmet. The laws in this state make no sense to me. It's illegal to ride in a car without a seatbelt but legal to ride a bike without a helmet . Go figure.
Years ago, we were on vacation in Switzerland and a guy on a motorcycle goes flying by us on the center yellow line just as we were making a legal left hand turn. We didn't see him and he flew right into our car. We thought he was dead. Thank God he was wearing a helmet or he would have been dead. He was thrown from his bike and skidded down the curb about 50 feet. His leather jacket saved him from getting all cut up. He was one lucky guy, although his bike, not so lucky.
Another story, a girl I work with was sitting at a stop light on the back of a bike with her husband when a vehicle plowed into them. She didn't even see it coming and she was not wearing a helmet. She was thrown from the bike and her head hit the pavement hard. It was touch and go for a long time, but she was one of the lucky ones that pulled through, although she has had all sorts of medical problems stemming from that accident.
So, for me, I don't ride. It's too scarey. I drive I-4 almost every day and there's just too many crazy drivers in this area. The closest I come to riding is renting a moped to get around down in Key West where the speed limit is never above 35 mph.
Anyway, please be safe.
Susan
Susan,
Scary indeed. My son wants one. He's 16 and very responsible. Good Student, star runner & budding musician. He said, you do not have to worry about me showing off, bla, bla, bla.
I said I know that. But you're impatient. He just grinned and said like you, and walked away, then looked back over his shoulder and said you're right.
I-4 is a loony bin. I often go back roads to St Mary, Winter Park or Springs. I'll pray for you.

it'll be a couple months before I can get the old WideGlide out....
Against a very pissed wifes wishes, I'm going to take riding lessons...always wanted to ride, just to crazy when i was younger....I'm pretty mellow now....anyhow, I've got 5 friends that ride, they meet for breakfast on Sunday mornings....always worked on cars, cant wait to tear into a bike or two....dont want no crotch rocket, just something I can lean back in and feel the Sacramento summer heat

My five year old son is obsessed with motorcycles--all kinds. He has been riding a KTM50 since he was only three and just got another bike. He looks like a bobble head on his bike. Helmet, chest protector, riding pants, boots, gloves and goggles EVERY time. I just take slow deep breaths and pray that he's safe. It truly is his passion and I'm amazed by everything he knows about them.
Yeah brother! I ride a cruiser. I'm too long legged to sit comfortably on a HD. Paid cash for my Suzuki 1500 LE. It was one of those "love at first sit," deals. It just fit. The new ones are nicer still. Here's a newer version: http://suzukicycles.com/Products/C90TK8

Here's an excellent Public Service Announcement for all drivers.
I've got a Bigdog that I take out when it's not too windy. Glad spring is finally here!
That is, until the day I sort of lost control of one on a highway, went off the road, down an embankment and through some beautiful Wisconsin woods (they were a blur at the time . . .

Hey, I thought that was when you were in the the Carolla
My good lady Norma won't allow me to have one. She's seen how I drive on four wheels and has said at least I cant fall off of my car.

I'm actually a motorcycle dealer near Atlanta Georgia and ride almost every day, weather permiting. I enjoy riding with a small group from my area and try to go to bike week in Daytona and Thunder Beach in Panama City each year. I always have Joe's CD's in the stereo and will play him on my ipod with a FM modulator. The group can all tune into the same station and enjoy JB together. It's a lot of fun to ride with a new group and introduce them to the finest guitar player on the planet. I've seen Joe in 8 states last year and hope to do the same this year.
Any JB fans looking for a motorcycle check my listings on eBay under Karcosolutions.
