Topic: Oli Brown Band

I heard this band on the Paul Jones show on BBC Radio 2 a couple of weeks ago. Checked out their web site and found they were playing in Harrogate at the Blues Cafe. Went down to see them play, as did loads of other blues fans, the place was packed solid. They were fantastic. The lead singer and guitarist is only 17 (I think) but plays the blues with a passion and has a great voice too. The bass player Fred and drummer Simon also very talented young guys. Check them out on You Tube. I especially like 'Been So Long'. There's also a couple of videos of them tearing it up in Memphis at the International Blues Challenge. Really cool. They will be playing at the Burnley Blues Festival over Easter. Catch 'em if you can.

Hi Tripsy,

I heard that session too and I've been checking out his tour dates. Planning to make a trip to Cockermouth to see him in April. Will be a round trip of 200 miles, but think it will be worth it!

Hiya Greenose
I don't think you will be dissappointed. I'm sure they are going to be big. He reminds me of Johnny Lang in his youth. Just hope he stays with the blues. By the way do you have greenears too?!

Re: Oli Brown Band

Loved that Tripsy AND I saw another video on youtube with Oli and John Mayall who we'll be seeing again (just saw him in the fall) in three weeks!!  If I get a chance to speak with him again, I'm going to talk to him about Joe, and also ask WHO he thinks we should know about.......

I know that Joe could play one of those kid's guitars with the plastic strings and make it sound good-

Re: Oli Brown Band

I'm sure John Mayall will mention Oli. He's already quoted as naming Oli as "A real talent".

Re: Oli Brown Band

Hi Greenose. I certainly did enjoy Oli playing with Walter Trout. Isn't it brilliant that Walter Trout, Joe , John Mayall and other great players give young artists like Oli Brown a helping hand. I saw Walter Trout at the Muni in Colne, Lancashire in 2006 and he had a young lad of 13 on stage for a couple of numbers. I'm afraid I can't remember his name now. It must mean a helluva lot to young players and inspire them so much, if you know what I mean.
The future of the blues is looking very good!
