Topic: What kind of pick do you use?

Im sitting here playing and took a look at my pick by some unknown reason.
So now Im wondering, what picks do you guys use and why??

I use Dunlop Jazz III picks. those small black ones. Mostly because I feel I get more control of the pick then I do when I use bigger "standard" ones

How about you? smile

Re: What kind of pick do you use?

I use dunlop jazztone 208's. There are like giant jazz III's that are really thick. I use them because theu have a really smooth release and wear really slow. heres a link http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ … ku=110352.

Re: What kind of pick do you use?

I dig the Jazz III's alot after I got used to them.  I still use Dunlop Tortex .88m  Both picks suite me and my style of playing.  Im a lead guy so the Jazz III really helped me pick insanely without unnecessary string picking, etc.  I feel it cut down on miss hits alot...that's just me.

Re: What kind of pick do you use?

Dunlop Tortex 1.14 mm, the big suckers. I never got into the jazz picks...I don't play jazz or death metal shred stuff, so there's no need!

In my experience F bombs are bleeped out...oops!

Haha and I find it funny, technically I'm still a minor anyway!

I got some of those kinds when I tried to order Jazz III picks from Germany, they look like my picks but are really big.
I didnt really like them so I gave em to my friend who plays Bass and he loves em. smile

Pah!! you all use picks for wimps :-) here is a REAL man's pick  http://www.v-picks.com/BigFatttie.html

I can't use anything else now.

Re: What kind of pick do you use?

I use .5 Scotty's Nylon (I like bendy picks) and for my acoustic I got some heavier dunlop tortex .71, I used to use Dunlop 475 Big stubbys but I always lose the damn things where as the bright yellow Scotty's are almost imposs to lose smile

Tone is in hands, not the ridiculously large pick. tongue

Re: What kind of pick do you use?

Fender Mediums, but I hate them new.  I like them when the point wears down a bit--which is usually a few hours into practicing because I hold them at an angle to the strings.

It's weird, all of my picks get the exact same wear pattern, it looks kind of look this, on both sides:

The darker region being the bit that's worn down.

Re: What kind of pick do you use?

I use Jazz 3s now, because that's what Joe uses and they help me play more like Joe...so far I still sound like me though, but I'm hoping I'll be sounding like Joe any day now wink

Re: What kind of pick do you use?

lol I get wear patterns like that, but more interestingly where I hold the pick with my thumb it seems to mold around my thumb so the pick is like umm not flat big_smile, never tried jazz 3's people always talk about them might order a few and see

Haha you know I've noticed the same thing, playing with the fading turtle on one side feels different than on the other, if that makes sense.

Hahah ken does it make you play like John Petrucci, Mick Thompson, Alexi Laiho, and Mark Tremonti too? Because apparently they all use them...

Re: What kind of pick do you use?

Just recently switched from Fender Mediums to Dunlop Nylon .88. They're a little more flexible to me but still firm enough. Thicker picks to me are harder to use, even though I have a fairly aggressive picking style.

Also, you guys should try using the fat end like SRV. I've tried both ways, and I just think using the fat end is just better

Re: What kind of pick do you use?

I've used a peso as a pick before...in particular it was for the final in my guitar class (took it last year, it was an easy A), where I played La Grange. I thought the peso made it sound more authentic. Never tried using the round end of a pick though, it sounds clumsy.

Re: What kind of pick do you use?

I vary between Dunlop Tortex and red/black Jazz III's.  I like to switch every so often so I'm forced to be more accurate.
