Re: Belgian Baseball

Sis you hit my main nerve especially at this time of year. Camp is started and I'm foaming at the mouth for some big league baseball. Congrats to your nephew, he must have some talent that caught somebody's eye over there. Maybe they're the Belgian Waffles or the Belgian Chocolates, LOL, just kiddin' of course.

Re: Belgian Baseball

I suspect that if Cathy's nephew is any good he'll be playing in Holland, not Belgium.

As those of you who are baseball fans may know, Holland is Europe's Numero Uno at baseball. I can't recall ever having seen the Belgians play internationally, nor am I aware that they have any sort of league.

Disclaimer - me not being aware of it doesn't mean it can't exist. smile

OK Joe's in Belgium today..If you read this Joe..remember, the Merchtem Cats are your team! He leaves 3/27...Opening day is 4/5?..He'll be pitching I think.. Trip for the Hoax looking dim..but...there's no way his Mother will miss seeing this, so, we'll get there this summer..    Cathy

Re: Belgian Baseball

Belgium.
Love it. It's where I discovered Joe after all (but loved it before then) !! I feel a trip there coming on this year. One of my favourite bars is at the side of the Maniken Pis in Brussels......Pochen something or other.
I had no idea they played baseball though. It's not a popular sport in Europe....well to my knowledge anyway.

Strange how we different continents have different tastes in sports. I don't think I've ever seen anyone play baseball here in over 50 years of living in th UK.

I used to love the Peanuts cartoons by Schultz who often had CB on the baseball mound (appologies US friends if that's wrong - think it's called a mound) and even though I don't understand the subtleties of the game, they always made me laugh. Wonder if Peppermint Patti loved Joe ?

Sorry. Bit of a ramble there !

Best wishes to all in Belgium on this fine day.

Alright..He leaves thurs. 3/27 will be in Amsterdam airport early in the am..then to Brussels. The is another American from New York , so hoping they will be traveling together. Can't make it to Belgium until September, so if any of you are close..PLEASE try to catch a game. His name is Darrion Siler and he will have a Bonamassa Street Team shirt on!  Thanks, Auntie Cate

Re: Belgian Baseball

Watch this space for a full update on Cathy's nephew's Belgian baseball news. He's in Amsterdam today and I'll' be meeting him tonight - before I get to meet the co-elder herself - very weird - we're calling it a 'date' by proxy. lol

Re: Belgian Baseball

I'm happy to report that the "date by proxy" went well. There was no sign of animal sacrifices or a hidden passion for Disco in the house. Thanks for the hospitality George and I owe you!  Oh wait..I'll pay you back soon!    Auntie Cate

You sure will. big_smile

The younger male Siler is not only a baseball player and a singer with excellent musical taste, he's also a very wonderful young human being in every sense. I recognized a fellow 'mensch' and was immediately fond of him.

Just one more little piece in the cosmic jigsaw.

Re: Belgian Baseball

Well. it's my understanding they're doing well. We will see the last game...should be fun. In the meantime, my nephew is part of an art show in Brussels. He and his friend made a book of photos and verse. Joe has one of the first copies. Here's the link to the gallery if you're interested  http://www.gallery-gabrichidze.com/

He's also to be on the radio tomorrow..I'm waiting for info.     Cathy

Re: Belgian Baseball

Cathy,
My daughter is in Italy at this moment, but is traveling to Brussels within the next week (I believe in the next 2 or 3 days).
I'll try to send her the link (she said there have been very long waits at the internet cafes and they have not accessed e-mail as yet). I'm not sure their schedule or if they'll have time, but she is a big art fan and might be interested.

I take it you passed on my details, Bill? Did I send you the phone numbers? Can't remember....

I'm kind of looking forward to this Belgian baseball experience - I don't think I've seen a live game since I was a kid.
