Topic: Hi from Australia

Hi to everyone,
Just signed up.  I have been a fan for a while, since hearing Joe's Tea for One on a Led Zep covers compilation that came with a guitar mag.  There is no distribution here in Australia, so it's taken a while to get more albums.  I had a parcel arrive from Amazon a fwe days ago to save the day.  Spent today watching and marvelling at Rockpalast.  I am going to have to buy another copy to loan to all my guitar friends.
Sloe Gin is another favourite of mine, being familiar with the original version by Tim Curry from my teenage days.  Twas a great teenage angst song in it's day.
There is a lot of buzz about Joe on the Les  Paul forum as well, so it's great to finally be able to hear more.
Now I just need to bug him about coming to Australia to play some shows.  I have a couple of nice R9's he can borrow, so there is no reason for him not to, and some great rooms to sound good in.
Watching the DVD has me fired up to practice, which is why I dropped in here, to see what tuning The River and Burning Hell are in, so I can cook up some slide.
My nick is a giveaway to my general lack of ability though, but inspiration to practice is burning in me now.
Cheers

welcome,im new myself

Re: Hi from Australia

Welcome to the forum Passionfingers. I'm not surprised you're all fired up to play, I think Joe is a huge inspiration to loads of people. I hope you get to see him live one day. We are very lucky here in the UK, Joe comes here often. Maybe you could think about planning a holiday here next year for when Joe plays the Royal Albert Hall. That would be one helluva Bonabaptism. Start saving your pennies!

Thank you for the welcome everybody.
I think I'm going to head to the Blues Festival this afternoon.

Rodrigo y Gabriel will be playing in the early evening, so I'd like to catch them.
Maybe I'll catch up with the organisers sone time and show them some Joe stuff.  I'm sure he would be high on the invite list then, and he'll come to my back yard, heh heh !!

Meantime, it's open F and slide blues for me today.  It's Easter Monday holiday today, otherwise known as Lotsa Noise Day !!!

Re: Hi from Australia

OK, about me.

44, married, very young in the head, guitar mad.

I live in the Gold Coast hinterland on a wee farmlet with a tribe of dogs and horses.  The land lets me crank the amps a bit, which is great.  It's basically right on the bump where Australia sticks furthest out into the PAcific.  It is a very beautiful area, and I go to Byron BAy frequently for surfing and shopping and dolphin watching.

My first concert experience was Dire Straits in 1981.  I never saw AC/DC, can honestly say I never really got into them.  I did see a lot of the Aussie pub bands like Midnight Oil, INXS.  Have seen a fair smattering over the years.
There is a great pub at Byron called the Great Northern, which has a superb room (are you listening , JOe?) where I saw the Black Keys last year, which was super.  I was hanging over the front of the stage, so close I nearly got swiped with his guitar a few times.
I also saw an old Aussie band The Angels ghere a few weeks ago, which was great because I never did catch them when I was young and they were one of my favourite bands.

I have seen Metallica and Pearl Jam several times, had second row seats on on night during their last tour.
I also had front row right in front of Joe Satriani for their G3 tour here last year, which was better than  amazing.
I just went down to Byron for the Bluesfest today and saw Rogrigo y Gabriel, among others, which was quite a treat.
They are simple sensational live.
I stuff around on guitar a lot, but don't play in a band.  Too old for the youg guys, too young for the oldies, but it's all good fun.
So that's me.  Joe is perfectly designed to satisfy all my musical interests really.  He has all the old school style and class, with the energy of youth and the ability to take something great and make it even better.
And he has drifted to Les Pauls.  I have a couple of R9's, similar to what he plays, so it makes it even more interesting.  I like his comments about how the Strat thing in blues is so overdone.

Music is in the spaces, so is life.

Re: Hi from Australia

Hi everyone have been visiting Joe's site for a while but only just got around to joining.  I live in Blackpool and first saw Joe a couple of years agon when the Kite Club put him on in Blackpool and we were blown away by him.  Have seen him twice since then in Holmfirth and Morecambe and he just gets better.  We've booked for Liverpool in July. Me and my other half are big blues fans and it's a privilege for us to see him getting better and better and being able to introduce new people to him.

Re: Hi from Australia

Welcome Kayabarb I was at Holmfirth too with my Partner Geoff O who is also a member of the forum of long standing.  What a great venue that was, very strange situation they must have wondered where they were off too on the tour bus!!!

Seems there are going to be a lot of the forum members at Liverpool so we should make ourselves known to each other somehow.  It cannot come soon enough.

Rock on and keep the faith!!
