hi fellow forum members just wondering what you think the best music film you,ve seen is.mine is the kids are alright featuring the who.the version of barbara ann with keith moon on vocals cracks me up no matter how many times i see it
Great topic. There are some really good ones.
Recently, "Across the Universe" sticks out. I'm also partial to "Tommy".
My favorite single song musical scene is from Ferris Beuhler's Day Off, when he sings twist and shout from the top of the parade float.
How about the "Blues Brothers" ?!
When it comes to a whole orchestra I like the music to "Lord of the Rings" a lot ... and "Caravans" is also great -crappy movie, but good music.
I have to admit that I used to like the "Titanic" soundtrack very much *hidesherheadinshame* ... and actually I still like it.

I'm with you there Eva.....about the Lord of the Rings. It's a fantastic score definitely. This is a great topic and I love movie scores and music in film in general.
Now as far as music based films are concerned, I gotta say 'Ray' with Jamie Foxx, and 'Walk the Line' with Whackhim Pheonix (sorry) 
. Both excellent biopics with great music in them. As far as movie sountracks....which is a different subject in itself, where do I start!?!
I think the first one that really grabbed me when I was young was the soundtrack to 'Flash' by Queen. I used to listen to that one with headphones on for hours at a time. Another one was 'Blade Runner' by Vangelis. The opening sequence blows me away even now after all these years.
Favourite soundtrack of recent years would be 'Heat' which is full of really cool tracks (anyone else heard of Terje Rypdal???......just me??).
The first thing that came to my mind is the soundtrack to Forrest Gump...I love most of the songs in that movie. Zep's The Song Remains The Same is an all time favorite of mine.

P.S.: Dave, have you seen him beg Led Zep for being allowed to use the "Immigrant song" in the bonus part of the DVD?! Where he stands in front of the crowd and gets on his knees for the "Gods of Rock´n´Roll" .... one of a kind!

The Billie Holiday Story ( i think Diana Ross played the Lead ) great story and Music
O' Brother where art thou .... that is good stuff in that film

Lots of great ones out there. Aside from many of them already mentioned, I really enjoy the Conan the Barbarian/Destroyer score. I'm a sucker for epic orchestral music.
I also like the soundtrack for Requiem for a Dream and what the Dust Brothers did on the Fight Club soundtrack.
The scores to Shawshank Redemption and American Beauty are another 2 of my favourites.
As well as being fantastic films, the music elevates them both to another level IMHO.

just saw august rush last night - i really liked this movie, though cheesy predictable hollywood ending.
Worst music ever in a (really lame) film and probably got an academy award: soundtrack for "there will be blood" - done by someone from radiohead. The whole thing is 0 for 3 with me:
1.I HATED the music during the movie - it was so jarring and irritating and not fitting/ out of sync with the scenes in the movie.
2. i think the movie was lame too - it got awards too and the critics fawned and gushed - bleah!
3. I can think of 1 or 2 songs by radiohead that i DONT turn off. I bought one of their cs when they were new on the scene, forced myself to listen to each song - twice!! and returned it! im sure they are talented skilled musicians but their sound/style does nothing for me - not a thing. After seeing the movie i heard the soundtrack was by one of the guys from radiohead and it really explained a lot to me.
