Great photos, and Ross Haflin's Diary is interesting reading - the life of a photographer of musicians.
I love the backstage ones of Joe laughing. That's going to be my new computer wallpaper.
Some fantastic pics here
Indeed - some jaw-droppingly fine pics here! Big doff of the cap to the photographer.
Very nice shots...like the backstage ones as well, especially with the iron in the background.
some great photos, mind you he is the worlds best rock photographer
Whilst I don't necessarily agree with you on the "naff" comment Jane, I have to say that having access to backstage / offstage areas is indeed a privilige that not many are afforded - jeez, I'd give my right arm to have Joe give me "fly on the wall" permission to shoot him before, during and after a gig, and in the recording studio - and he could have my pics for nowt! Informal shots are really what good photography are all about - but what do I know!
I have to say that most of Ross's shots are good, though not all are masterpieces. It's worth remembering that in today's digital age us amateurs can shoot off literally hundreds of shots, throughout a whole Joe Show, often experimenting with settings and techniques to get the "effect" we are aiming for, whilst in the main, jobbing photo journos just get the first three songs of a gig and selected area permmissions. Only a few years ago, pro photgraphers like Ross were stuck with film, where limited numbers of shots per roll meant they couldn't just fire off endless shots and twiddle with them in the computer. That experience alone is going to put them in a different league.
Joe, can I do some "fly on the wall" whilst you're in Liverpool please?

great photos, some good shots there..
Fantastic photos.
he's very lucky in my opinion to have the opportunity to photograph Joe and get the off stage time...
I just don't think he captures Joe anywhere near as well as countless others' work i have seen, and I can easily imagine if others had been given the same off stage privileges what they could do as well.
He is one of the world's most famous rock photographers, well that's true.
again its just one person's opinion. maybe in a few years i will be able to say otherwise.
Jane, I'm with you on this one. I"ve seen some amazing "amateur" photos of Joe posted on this very site, as well as links to others' flicker, myspace, shutterbug, etc. sites that capture Joe in all his intensity and glory. I was told by one of these amazing amateur photographers that Ross's pics are indeed a study in lighting and depth, (whatever THAT means) and that alone makes his photos impressive. I'm still of the thinking that some of the diehard fans, amateurs one and all, and some whose work has been chosen as cover material, have better captured (or done AS GOOD A JOB of capturing) the essence of Joe. But that's just me....(and maybe you, too, Jane.)
