Topic: Joe B and Rory Gallagher's Strat brought for Albert Hall gig ?

Dear Joe

Rory Gallagher's  old  Strat  is  only taken  out  of some vault  by  his brother  now  for Charity  Exhibitions ( e.g  the  Harrods  Guitar  exhibition  in 2007 ) : Thus ,though it  was  great  to see it at  Harrods last year, it needs  to  be  played.

I  think  it  would  be fitting  that   someone  like yourself   and/or  Davey Knowles get  permission   to play a  few  songs  on  it :Its  image is now a staple ; for  example  there  is a Classic Rock CD  complilation  with   RG'S Strat  as  the cover   but  no Rory  or Taste  actually  in the selection !

So maybe  contact Donal Gallagher  ( RG's brother) and with a bit  of help from Fender themselves , well  who  knows?

Best  to  you and  all  out there

I gotta say - as much as I love Joe B. and as much as I think guitars need to be played - even guitars worth hundreds of thousands of dollars (they were built to be played people... NOT to be put on a wall to look at them) - i truly believe RG's strat should not be played by anyone else (along with JP LP, SRV #1, Blackie etc.)... it was such an iconic guitar used by one amazing artist for his entire career - just doens't seem right to me to have anyone else play it...

I can't remember who said it, but it was about SRV's Number 1: "That dog's only got one master."

I kind of agree.  I have Rory's herco pick and Stevie's Fender pick... i don't even feel right about playing those!  You know how you feel when you see a stranger pick up YOUR #1 guitar?  Crazy.

Never heard that one before - but THAT is exactly how I feel about it...

Re: Joe B and Rory Gallagher's Strat brought for Albert Hall gig ?

All true, but i dno how you guys feel about #1 and blackie, but i feel really sad when i think of Rory's strat sitting there gathering dust, never to sing again...
At least Blackie still gets played and Jimmie plays #1,
Maybe it's just me...

Re: Joe B and Rory Gallagher's Strat brought for Albert Hall gig ?

play Blackie, ok so he played some famous tunes on it but you have to remember it is not a genuine strat, its a composite of the 3 strats he bought to make blackie so its not a genuine strat you could have bought at the time but the best of 3 strats put together.

even though i'm irish and i like rory his studio work lacked something for me all his cd's should have been live shows cause thats when he really played the guitar his studio work is a bit dull.

and yes i agree SRV number 1 should be vaulted and never played by anyone cause no one is as good as SRV
