Re: Back Door Slam

HOLY ****!!!

I just saw these guys live in San Frnacisco tonight - they were superb!!!!!  I am soooo glad they did Red House! They did a lot from their CD, Rollaway as well - if you don't have this CD yet, get it!!  I forgot which song Knowles played during the encore on the mandolin, but he is really talented. All 3 are - they sounded very tight and played with enthusiasm and blues grit! I really hope to hear more soon from these guys.  If you see them headed your way on tour, get out there and check em out.

Re: Back Door Slam

Got an e-mail from Shred, I mean Dave, about this show. I'll let them tell you but Joe, if you read this, they have now been signed to a recording company. Dang! They would have been great for J&R..Oh well! Have to move faster next time.....Still..makes me very happy to find more very young blues/rockers!!!!                 Cathy

Re: Back Door Slam

I was at the show with Shred and was very impressed with BDS. The venue was brutal, just a sardine can, plus a staff with bad attitudes. Once these young lads hit the stage nothing mattered but the music. I do mean young, only the drummer was old enough to get served a beer. Hope their next gig here in Jan. is in a better set up club.
Bought their CD and am currently diggin' it over and over today. Dawg says, "Check these guys out!"

Re: Back Door Slam

Paul,
Thanks for posting the link to the torrent of the live show. I see that Duke Video has the DVD. Did you have any issues with ordering from the UK? I would sure like to see it available from Amazon.

Thanks for sharing the info on BDS. It's to bad the bass player left for school, but maybe it's something he had to do.

Re: Back Door Slam

Having received a copy of Roll Away over the weekend, I'd just like to say a big thank you to everyone on this Forum who has been going on about BDS over the last few months. If I hadn’t signed up to this wonderful forum relatively recently, I’d have never found out what a fantastic band they are.

From the opening bars of the first track you know it’s going to be something special. For a first album they sound remarkably mature and together. What a fantastic voice Davy has.

I hope they come back to the UK and do some dates soon. The US has had them long enough. big_smile

Have been reading about these guys ever since I joined the forum, only half-heartedly cuz it was all about Joe for me (and still is) but I decided to give them a look and I must say they are excellent. Couldn't believe they hail from the Isle of Man either.
Never had that place down as a haven for blues/rock.

Am mightily impressed, and like you say Phil, I hope they return soon. Will keep them on the radar for certain now. Cheers guys for your constant dedication, and for helping to bring awareness of new musical talent into our lives.

I was a little late getting on the train but I'm there now, and she's running sweet! smile

Re: Back Door Slam

Seeing how a lot of people on the forum were raving about BDS I've just got Roll Away delivered courtesy of those nice people at Amazon and all I can say is wow!  Why did it take so long to find out about them?  (a refrain that is oh so familiar when people find out about Joe!)  I can't believe the lead singer is only 20 years old.  He sings with a voice that sounds so much more mature beyond his years.  Reminds me of a younger Paul Rogers, maybe.

I think it would be great if they could support Joe at RAH next year but I think they should do a tour in their own right in the UK.  This is home grown talent of the best kind so c'mon home boys!

It's getting late in the day, I must be going home to my cave.  I meant RAH of course and not Shepherds Bush.  Engage brain before typing ...

Re: Back Door Slam

Thanks LynB you've just said exactly what I was thinking. Great album, just got it today!

Re: Back Door Slam

I just got ahold of a copy of "Roll Away" and it didn't "slam" me at first (pun intended) but the more I listen...the better I'm liking it.  Though I tend to like my blues to rock (like Jane), this song really caught me....wish I could get an acoustic to sound like this:

Planning on seeing them in Baltimore later this month....looking forward to a great show!

Re: Back Door Slam

I too agree Lynn, getting these boys in front of a mass audience will be difficult in the UK otherwise, the genre is not that popular here, as Joe will testify. But to get a real quality act like this in front of 5000 baying JB fans at the RAH, would do them and Joe a lot of favours and by that I mean, Joe getting support from a local (Well British anyway, 'cos the IOM is technically in Britain) upcoming band would give them both massive cudos from the music media.

Their debut album is quite honestly superb, even if, for some, it takes a while to get into it, once analysed, there just isn't a poor track on it. It's diverse and full of feeling, which you don't get on many albums. All credit to them, they are really pulling up treestumps in the States and are keen to keep up the momentum I know, but it will be great to have them back here!

Joe you should consider them for the RAH, they would be an ideal fit!

Re: Back Door Slam

Geoff, I added to your comment about Joe and the RAH on their website forum.

Speaking of which, there is a new Back Door Slam song on their website called Comin Up For Air which is live from EnergyFM. Its an acoustic song, and pretty good.

It can be found and downloaded at: http://www.backdoorslam.com/music.htm
