Jeez people.
It seems no one picked up on what I was getting at here. It wasn't about the Velvets as such, but about the theme of the song - having your life saved by rock n' roll - that moment or period in your life when you suddenly discovered what music could do to you because you first heard something that really turned you on.
I 'discovered' music in bed, at night, under my blanket, with my first little transistor radio, by tuning in to Radio Luxembourg. (This fact will be meaningless to US readers, but will bring a wry smile to the lips of older UK readers.)
After Buddy Holly, Fats Domino, Elvis, Jerry Lee, The Everly Brothers, the Twist, girl groups, suddenly there was Beatlemania and the Stones. Music simply exploded.
Which is why I empathize so much with the line in this song.."she couldn't believe what she heard at all".

WKBW out of Niagra New York...same thing..small transistor..There's music in most of my memories, but that was when I started hearing new and wonderful things that made me want more, and more, and more.... Cathy

Yep, listening to Radio Luxemburg under the sheets is exactly what I did as a kid. My parents were pretty stuffy about "that kind of, what do call it - music?" Even noted down the top ten each week, because there was no publication of it in those days. Then along came the "illegal" floating Radio Caroline! and our world in Europe was never the same. They dragged the BBC, god bless em, out of a time warp!
