The only thing you could fault him on was the spelling of his first name eh? LOL Anyway, here is a little reminiscing I posted at the alloutguitar website...
"I first saw Jeff in maybe late 1987, I cannot believe he was only 20 or 21 at that time. He floored me obviously and although I did not see him live often in subsequent years, when I did, what impressed me most was the sheer joy he derived from playing his music. His joy was infectuous. Just see how a seasoned pro like Marcus Miller in the clip above gets off on playing what for him would be the simplest of tunes.. I love his reaction when Jeff rakes the chair back, classic...
One other occasion stands out. I saw Jeff on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, musta been 1989. Course Jeff played his "hit" at the time Angel Eyes, and drew the usual polite applause from the canned audience. Johnny was sufficiently impressed though to invite Jeff back for a second number and he tore into "See The Light"... The audience was once again non-plussed and polite in their response BUT I will always remember Doc Severinson and his band cheering and whistling stage right and in fact giving Jeff a standing O he never saw.
Jeff had serious respect from fans AND musicians alike, and he deserved it....."
