P.S....I hope the mods dont kill this thread, it could get political, just something to think about if you respond

Re: Gasoline...are you kiddin me??

Forgot to mention that it was 87 octane...$3.43 a gallon....thats the most I've ever paid for the stuff mad

Re: Gasoline...are you kiddin me??

You North Americans make us Europeans laugh with your moaning. wink

We've been paying God knows how much more than you for many years already, so the shock factor may be less for us.

Holland and the UK have just about the most expensive gas in Europe. A liter of 95 octane 'Euro-leadfree' now costs slightly over 1.50 - in Euros! At current exchange rates of $1.50 to the Euro that means we're paying $2.25 per liter. Multiply by four (roughly) to convert to gallons and we're paying NINE BUCKS per gallon.

So stop complaining and buy smaller cars. wink

(This was an entirely non-political response.)

Hard to argue with that.

Re: Gasoline...are you kiddin me??

Sorry you American drivers, you know what we pay here in holland:

1,52 Euro for 1 liter!

A gallon in the US is 3.79 liter and the Euro is about 1,5 US dollar, so for a gallon we overhere must pay $ 3.86 for octane 95, not diesel. Hope the numbers are right.
gallon=3.79 liter stood in a book.

Keep on driving,

Andre Wittebroek.

Re: Gasoline...are you kiddin me??

Sorry George, my exchange rate wasn't right?

Sorry, thought it was about 1.5, but I must be wrong then. Never think and handle in dollars since the Euro.

Red car Andre Wittebroek!!!

One word ETHANOL. The entire country of Brazil pretty much runs on this stuff now which they pay about half the price for, not to mention how much cleaner it burns too. Unlike an oil spill if you had a corn spill the worst side effect is a free meal for the wildlife that oil kills.

We're paying over £1 per litre for leadfree. We're being taxed to death over here....with nothing to show for it. Do not make me get up on my soap box!

Taxation without representation, talk about a revolution. It worked for us colonists back in the day.

I bet most Europeans don't HAVE to drive as much as many Americans, though.

I have to drive roughly 100 miles a day just to get to and from work (I mean that is pretty much like driving across France almost twice a week, or from Northern to Southern Holland about 5 or so times a week).  I know I am not alone with this kind of thing, because lots of people in my area have to drive that distance.  Now, I can't really speak for larger cities (because they actually have a public transportation system), but the smaller towns/cities (particularly in the Midwest where there is still huge tracks of open space), it gets a bit harder to do.  I mean, the state where I live in is larger than many European countries.

Exactly! We in the U.S. have much greater driving distances. Did you know England is only about the size of the state of Wyoming? Also, Europeans have free health care. That's one less expense. Oops, getting political. Gotta insert Joe in here smile  Hope your health is better these days, Joe  Btw, gas is $3.35 in New York.

The point about having greater distances to cover is a fair one. I am also aware that not all Americans drive SUVs or Hummers or major gas guzzlers, but too many still do.

Europeans do NOT have FREE health care. We pay monthly contributions - mine is nearly 200 bucks. It is true that our health insurance will cover major expenses far beyond what we contribute. For example, my late wife's three-weekly chemo cocktail that she received for 18 months, cost about 1000 euros a time and was fully covered.

Re: Gasoline...are you kiddin me??

I used to do a round trip of 100 miles a day for work, it's now 60 miles. Free health care???? You've gotta be joking. We pay National Insurance....no choice...it's taken at source. It pays for our health care...except the waiting times for major ops are up to 6 months (less according to the government).....unless you're not born here....then you get it for free....at the tax payers expense! (I told you not to get me on my soap box smile )

Re: Gasoline...are you kiddin me??

I put fuel in my car last week on autopilot and noticed that it was one of those posh deisel fuels - £1.17 per litre !!
Let go of the trigger pretty quick when I realised.
The bog standard deisel was £1.10. That's bad enough.

£1.17 !!

Sheesh !!!

1 liter = 1, 47  Euros = 2,23 USD in Germany at the moment.
Man, I´m glad I´m driving such a small car! smile

Pittsburgh, Pa.   $3.19 a gallon.  I drive about 20 miles one way to work each day. Lucky me uses a company gas card for write off.  50 bux a week.  Glad it's not coming out my wallet.

Take care everyone. And if I don't meet you no more in this world
