I know that Joe could play one of those kid's guitars with the plastic strings and make it sound good-

Ditto!  And Smiley Faces (lasers and all, lol).  And even Gone Daddy Gone.  All 3 are great videos too, check em out...

To be honest, I haven't heard/seen too much more than that, but I must say Crazy and Smiley Faces are quite addictive... I've got both their home site and MySpace site saved in my favorites so that I can crank those songs every once in a while, usually repeatedly, lol.

Did you know that Crazy is sampled from the soundtrack of an old spaghetti western?  Here, have a listen...

Septics don't say "cor". big_smile

Nope, sorry Sister Cate. No way. Not now not ever. On a scale of 1-10 I'd say that my interest in this genre of 'music' is around the -10 mark.

('Septic' is London rhyming slang for 'Yank');)

Re: So you hate all rap artists?

I've tried to like rap. Sometimes I think it's because I'm old, white and don't get it but other times I think it's just because there's so much BAD rap out there. But I like Gnarls. Crazy was a great song.

I'm just saying.

Re: So you hate all rap artists?

I'll way in on this...first off we listen to everything in our family...as long as I'm not hearing "To live Crew"..."NWA" or any of those disgusting words (lyrics if you will)...then I'm cool to that...were dancing fools in our family, and a huge melting pot of different bloodlines...so I cant be hypocritical...although my kids say I am (of course there right)...so when we have a party in my family, then were listening to most everything...I always throw down some R/B if it's in my home, as thats middle ground for most

Re: So you hate all rap artists?

Wheres the talent?? So they can sing, Wheres the guitar bass drums, keyboards. Nope they dont know how. Just a machine with a beat and sing away..
Just me,,
Everyone has a veiw on it but to me its boring, same ole thing just diff. count, Same machine doing the music
Langlo....

Re: So you hate all rap artists?

The point I'm making is listen to a song and then dislike it if that's how you feel. This song from Abbey Road has violin players, keys and is beautiful..Differs from the version on the CD which I do own. The names of genres turn people off w/o a listen. Ex..Joe says he plays blues..Lots of folks think that means he plays a homemade guitar with 5 strings and stomps whils he plays..It's a built in bias that we all need to avoid. I'm with Shred..My house is open to sampling it all. I don't want to miss anything!   lol     Cathy

Re: So you hate all rap artists?

First of all, let's just define it what it is: Gnarls Barkley ain't rap. They don't rap. Cee-Lo is a singer. As a matter of fact, I think it's an insult that they even be considered rap.

I'm with you there Cathy. I take great pride in my varied taste in music, and my collection includes everything from Jean Michel Jarre, Beethoven to Hendrix and The Foo Fighters. I do like some rap music too, it just depends on the beat for me. I do own Timbaland's album from a while back too. I shut the door to nothing until it fails to move me in some way.

I did quite like the Gnarls Barkley "Crazy" track at first. It is actually a little bit bluesy to me?? However, our main national radio station jumped on the bandwagon, like it always does, and played the record until my ears started to bleed at the mearest sound of the chorus!!

And that's why I don't listen to the radio. That's why I can still enjoy Nickelback's Rockstar.

Re: So you hate all rap artists?

Oh Awright Roy, my bad.  (wink) BTW...Deezer has spoken! (wink again)

Thumbing through my son's Ipod the other week and found: (in no particular order) Velvet Revolver, Gnarls Barkley, GunsN Roses, AC/DC, Bob Marley, Albert King, Nelly, Foreigner, Aerosmith, 3 Doors Down, Outkast and a lotta Clapton.

They make fun of me if I listen to a band that's either white or alive.  Now he's busted. lol

Well whadaya know?

Re: So you hate all rap artists?

The question is a bit emotive. It shouldn't be "so you hate all rap artists?", but maybe something like,

'Have you ever discovered anything meaningful, interesting, appealing or moving in rap/hip-hop?"  (ok, it's a bit long, but you get the drift.. and yes, I am either unwilling or unable to differentiate one from the other)

For me, the answer to that is 'no'.

I've had this discussion hundreds of times since the boy started playing Wu Tang Clan in the house 10 years ago or so. I simply don't like the genre, period. It all sounds like irritating 'dreck' to me.

And before I'm accused of having limited taste, my music includes everything from Beethoven, Mozart and Strauss to Zappa, Captain Beefheart, the Velvets, Lou Reed, The Dead, Little Feat, Neil Young, Bruce, Bonnie, Emmylou, the Dixie Chicks, Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, BB King, the Isley Bros, loads of different reggae, Anita Baker.......Joe!!!

I've never felt musically narrow-minded in my life. I know what I like, and rap ain't anywhere near it.

Rant over. big_smile
