Topic: The Celestial Lunar Eclipse

Hey, If you're reading this you need to get outside and take a look at the moon,  It is really far out looking right now.  Like a suspended white beachball with red fuzzy around it.  It is suppose to peak at 9:26 Central Standard Time.  I just love stuff like this.  I have been known to get up in the middle of the night and drive out in the middle of the boonies to see meteor showers, Northern Lights, etc..........what a spectacular show God is giving us now ?

Patty,

Wow!  I was just mentioning the eclipse on another thread!  It is extra cool and mysterious here in the California desert sky as the storm clouds of various density keep passing over it.  It keeps peeking out (adding to the DRAMA).  So beautiful.  I just talked to a man across the street who's visiting from Boston.....he's about 70 years old and it's the FIRST ONE he's ever seen.  Now HE needs to get out more!

GLAD YOU'RE ENJOYING IT IN IOWA TOO!!!

Re: The Celestial Lunar Eclipse

Yeah, I get into these things too, and the past year or so has been pretty exciting.  A couple months ago it was Comet Holmes... I think I remember two full lunar eclipses last year... there was an alignment of several planets... and an extra good Perseids meteor shower.  Generally speaking I spend an inordinate amount of time looking UP, whether it be at the night sky, daytime clouds, sunsets, or sunrises.  So anyway, yeah, I was out there periodically tonight with my binoculars (oh how I'd love to get a decent telescope someday)... it was too bitter cold to stay out for very long at a time.  Luckily we had clear skies, but we'd gotten some snow earlier which was reflecting moonlight and brighening things up a bit much.  Still, very cool, especially since it's our last FULL lunar eclipse til Dec 2010.

Hi Lee - that's a great photo, really clear and just beautiful.  The eclipse took place in the UK at around 03.45 GMT (apparently).  I wouldn't know as I was tucked up warmly in bed.

Lee, love the shot.  what kind of lens did you use?  settings?  I REALLY need to learn how to use my new camera, cuz I couldn't get a single shot of the eclipse.  But it WAS beautiful.  Thanks for capturing that!
