Topic: Live Session recorded for The Paul Jones R 'n' B Show, on BBC Radio 2

Hi Everyone,

I had a very exciting time, on Wednesday, as I was lucky enough (hundreds applied) to have my name pulled out of a hat, to go to see Joe Bonamassa record a live session and interview for The Paul Jones R 'n' B Radio 2 Show.

Joe and his band played a number of the songs that are on their new album "Sloe Gin", including the title track.  In between the numbers Paul invited members of the audience to ask Joe questions. A young man called Tod asked him about his guitar. Joe asked him if he played and it turned out that he did so he invited him up on the stage to try them out for himself. It turned out that Tod was himself a very impressive guitar player with his own snazzy style and won lots of applause from the audience.

A highlight of the evening was when Paul Jones joined in, a number called "You Upset Me", with his harp. They had only just rehearsed it that afternoon, but it sounded really awesome!  I think  that they should make an album together. What do you all think?

Joe Bonamassa is currently doing a tour of the UK, including a gig at The Empire, Shepherd's Bush, but I think that most of the venues will be sold out by now.  Next year I suppose that they will have to put him on at The Royal Albert Hall.  What do you all think?

Everyone in the world can hear this very exciting programme on Radio 2, at 7 PM GMT, on Monday 11th February. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/jones/  It will also be on "listen again" for a week afterwards, so there's no excuse to miss it!   The Paul Jones Radio Two website also includes extra tracks http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/jones/sessions.shtml
that they don't have time to play, so from Monday evening a bit after 8 PM GMT, there will probably be some extra Joe Bonamassa live session tracks posted on it, also the interview in full.

The Paul Jones R 'n' B Radio Show, is by far the best programme on BBC Radio 2 as it features lots of brilliant blues artists like Joe, it's strapped for time though.  It needs to be an hour longer really, so if you enjoy what you hear next week please post your comments etc. here http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/jones/comments.shtml  also here

Joe Bonamassa abducted and Free’d by UFO!

Classic Rock went to see US blues whizz Joe Bonamassa play a small gig to 80 people at the BBC’s Maida Vale studios last night, and was astonished to learn that Mr B. once ‘depped’ (ie stood in for) Michael Schenker at a UFO gig. “Just for one gig,” he joked in front of the invited audience. “I mean, can you imagine me with a Flying V?”

But it was to be a fateful meeting. “After the gig, Pete Way gave me a cassette he’d made of Free. It blew me away from the opening notes. I was writing songs for my first solo album at the time, and it was like I had to stop the car, get out, set fire to the car, and get a new car…”

In between blowing minds with blazing versions of So Many Roads, Ten Years After’s One Of These Days and a cover of ZZ Top’s Just Got Paid (complete with psychedelic freak out and Dazed And Confused segue), Bonamassa stressed the ‘rock’ part of his ‘blues rock’, with kudos given to Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Rory Gallagher and Zeppelin. “How can anyone say Good Times Bad Times isn’t the blues?” he said.

Catch the full gig, plus Q&A on the Paul Jones Rhythm and Blues Show on BBC Radio 2 at 7pm on Monday 11 February or, even better, catch Bonamassa on tour this month (dates in that arse-backwards American way, but I can’t be arsed retyping):

Hi Everyone,

BTW .... you need Real Player to listen .... http://www.real.com/

Sometimes I get so worried ..... BLUES DELUXE

Re: Live Session recorded for The Paul Jones R 'n' B Show, on BBC Radio 2

Hi RJK and everyone

Yeh!  You need Real Player to play the extra session tracks on PJ's prog.  It's easy to down load.  Paul Jones has got live tracks by David Gogo, Matt Anderson and Guy Davis on his session page this week, plus an interview with Bill Frisell.  Joe's full interview and extra sessions will be put on next week, after the show has been broadcast live.

The Paul Jones Radio 2 website is really cool.  It has extra music, photos, a comments page and tons of links to the websites of the artists they have featured.  It's certainly the best show on Radio 2 - in my books anyway.  It was responsible for Joe's massive success in the UK.

If you try to download the session tracks though your computer crashes very dramatically! The BBC are very strict about such things!

To listen to BBC radio shows you need BBCiplayer which you can find out about it here

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/help/?focuswin

You can also subscribe to the Podcasts, but they only contain 20 seconds of each track (due to BBC rules etc.), so they are a bit of a joke!

Have just converted this show and am now listening....Bridge was awesome!!

Do yourselves a favor people, forget Real Player, it's a right pain. Download this -

This codec pack includes Media Player Classic, which will play just about anything and which won't hassle you about publicity emails, other interests and all that other yada-yada that we can do without!

Re: Live Session recorded for The Paul Jones R 'n' B Show, on BBC Radio 2

Hi Amsterhammer

The mini real player that pops up when I play the PJ session tracks, doesn't bother me very much with ads etc.  I never actually open up the Real Player page.  The BBCiplayer doesn't have ads on it.  My computer software already includes  Media Player, but I don't use that as my main player either.  I have iTunes Quick Time player as my main player.  All the different players on my computer sometimes get confused hmm and jealous of one another and seem to conflict and battle it out for supremacy.  I keep them all firmly under control though, most of the time, that is! big_smile

There have been a lot of comments posted on to the Comment page of The PJ prog's website  http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/jones/comments.shtml

The show has made Joe a lot more fans, it seems.  big_smile

Re: Live Session recorded for The Paul Jones R 'n' B Show, on BBC Radio 2

Hi Drumanroak

I'm very glad that you got to listen to Joe's session on the Paul Jones Radio prog last week. It was so awesome! cool

You know I was being extremely greedy big_smile when I hoped that there would be some extra Joe tracks to listen to on the Paul Jones Show website.  There usually are extra tracks on it, because the show is only an hour long (it's too short, please join our campaign to make it longer, by e mailing Radio 2:) ) and they don't have time to play everything that gets recorded at their sessions. It turned out, however, that they devoted the whole show to Joe's session, so there was no extra material to put onto the website.  They put the audience Q & A session on instead. You can still listen to that here http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/jones/sessions.shtml

You can also listen to some great live session tracks from David Gogo, Matt Andersen and Sam Kelly's Station House.  You know that the music that PJ plays on his prog is always great to listen to. smile
