Topic: Praise Joe for his lyrics :)

I just thought I´d do a little "Joe-praising" from time to time, so now´s the time to praise the lyrics of Joe´s songs ... we often rave about Joe´s guitar skills and his singing - but we don´t talk bout the WORDS too often. So have a look at a quite familiar songtext again:

You drive West on 80 and it won’t take too long,
‘Til the road starts climbing up to mountain time.
There’s a girl I know there, she lives free and easy,
And she shows me wonders and she takes my mind.

And she’s wild as eagles,
She’s as sweet as honeysuckle,
Her life’s flowing like a mountain stream.
And she takes me somewhere,
And it’s good to be there,
And she pulls me into her bright golden wing.

Now I hate the city and I love the country,
And I love that feeling on that mountain high.
And that girl is waiting, but she won’t wait too long,
So I drive all night to that clear blue sky.

And she’s wild as eagles,
She’s as sweet as honeysuckle,
Her life’s flowing like a mountain stream.
And she takes me somewhere,
And it’s good to be there,
And she pulls me into her bright golden wing.

I can feel it in the wind blow…
I can feel love flow…
And I’ll be there when the morning comes, yeah.

And she’s wild as eagles,
She’s as sweet as honeysuckle,
Her life’s flowing like a mountain stream.
And she takes me somewhere,
And it’s good to be there,
And she pulls me into her bright golden wing.

Bright golden wing…

And she’s wild as eagles,
She’s as sweet as honeysuckle,
Her life’s flowing like a mountain stream.
And she takes me somewhere,
And it’s good to be there,
And she pulls me into her bright golden wing.

Bright golden wing…

Isn´t that a perfect poem (o.k., not everyone likes poems, but as I study literature I´ve got to like them! wink) ?! And I think the two versions of the song (studio and live) reflect the two kinds of feelings that the song is about ... love and freedom - isn´t it beautiful?! smile

If you just look at the text the I like the ones best that were written by Mr. Jennings and Joe ...

What about you?!

P.S.: O.k., yeah, Joe can sing quite well and he can play guitar quite o.k.,  too  big_smile

Re: Praise Joe for his lyrics :)

I am in total agreement!
In a couple of post on the forum, everyone asks............what covers would you like to hear?
I love Joe's original songs the best.  His own music is so beautiful.  Lyrics and guitar.
I am always hoping to hear a new original of his.................................Keep writing Joe
Thanks for your insights on this Eva.  It was a very nice way to start a Sunday morning.

for me though that poem is more about love and love of nature, but thats also what is cool, you can interpret it the way you want even if its different that the writer's intent, lol.

You´re absolutely right Jane - when I said "freedom" I also meant the freedom that nature gives you, in connection with the special freedom that love can give you too ... aaarh, difficult to explain  (maybe I just didn´t choose the right word....you know, the language smile).

It´s the magic of good lyrics/poems that you can find whatever you search for in them - and that this special something can be different for everyone who reads/hears it. For me the perfect poem is one that touches your soul first and then makes you think ... and even if you have thought quite a while, it doesn´t lose it´s magic and "ability" to touch you. And the music makes it even sweeter.

Susan, I don´t have something to add to "keep writing Joe" smile

Which is why I would like to see him start doing more originals.
