Topic: VOX Tonelab

First post on the bonamassa forum, here it goes.
Im currently playing through a Vox tonelab and im having a hard time getting close to the Bonamassa delayed tone. Is anyone familiar with these and have any suggestions on have to tweak it?

Re: VOX Tonelab

Get a valve amp and borrow Joe for an evening. That should do it wink

Re: VOX Tonelab

First check out the thread  that goes over the delay tone in depth.

Second I have owned the Vox modeling stuff and did not have any luck finding any great sounding tones.
There are a few usable tones but I had a hard time finding them.

Third and most importantly,  Its not just delay that makes Joes tone.  Correct me if I am wrong guys...   Its his use of a dry and delayed amp.  The Marshall is the delayed one as it has a great clear sound excellent for delay.  He runs it thru the effects loop not in front of his amp.  This is very important.

The thick tone behind it is a product of his unbelievable collection of high priced amazing sounding amps, and his awsome collection of Les Pauls and other assorted dream guitars. Let not even include the fact he is an amazing player with a knack for dynamics.

This is only a start.

I have found I can get a pretty good thick sound from combining my Twin with a Vox AC 30.  I use Fulltone Effects for a very thick creamy yet clear sound. The vox helps with the clarity. I run the delay thru the Vox's effects loop.

I use a 58 reissue Les Paul.

This will get you close but I am still not in the same ball park of joes tone.  I am just trying to create something similar with my budget.

Good luck.

Re: VOX Tonelab

I've had some luck since my first post. The idea wasn't to copy anything, just to get some of the characteristics of the tone. After hours of tweaking, im satisfied:)

Re: VOX Tonelab

Hi there,

I have a Tonelab LE that I use with my worship band (that's my 'day-job'... Pastor to Musicians and Artists) and when i play coffee-shop size venues.   I've spent some time tweaking some tones that might help.   Like you, I'm not trying to copy Joe, but there are aspects of his tone I enjoy.  I've got two tones that I switch between, depending on the room, the sound system, how i'm monitored, etc.   Add a titch of reverb and/or delay, and you're golden.   Here's what i have thus far (played with an LP):

Amp Model:  68 Plexi
Cabinet: T75
Gain: 7
VGain: 10
Treble: 5-6
Mid:9
Bass: 2ish
Channel Volume: 6
Presence: 4-5
Noise Gate: 0   (i don't like the noise gate much...)

Amp Model: JCM800
Cabinet: T75
Gain: 5
VGain: 10
Treble: 4
Mid: 6.5
Bass: 10
Channel Volume: 6
Presence: 3
Noise Gate: 0

Let me know what you have.   I'm always looking to refine the Tonelab.  I've found that these work pretty well through a full PA.   the JCM800 patch works better through an amp, i think.

Peace,
Mike

Re: VOX Tonelab

are you talking about the 'swell' (i.e. violin sound) or just the delay?
