Topic: How about coming to Sumerfest in Milwaukee in June??

I see that you have some open dates in June - How about scheduling a performance at Summerfest in Milwaukee?

Re: How about coming to Sumerfest in Milwaukee in June??

We keep asking every year. Maybe this year will be the one. big_smile

I'm just saying.

If you want to see Joe at Summerfest (or anywhere else for that matter) your best bet is to contact the promoters and put in a request for him.

Re: How about coming to Sumerfest in Milwaukee in June??

I think Summerfest is way to huge to consider requests.  All we can do is hope.
I did see Joe there a couple years ago but nothing since.  They definitely need
more blues.  They are already starting to list the bands - will keep my eyes
open for anything good.

The booking the last few years has been nothing short of crappy at Summerfest.  I think the booking job changed hands and all has gone downhill since.  Nothing but local cover bands...even on the main stages for the headlining slots.  I have little hope this year, but would like to be proven wrong.  I haven't seen that many warm weather JB gigs.  He always gets booked around here when it's -20.

Re: How about coming to Sumerfest in Milwaukee in June??

Can I be the devil's advocate and say why put him in a jumble of talent and why not keep him on his own marquee?!  I'm just saying, not saying I feel this way completely, although I do to a certain (and uncertain where the line is!) degree.

My thoughts exactly - I feel that cover bands and bar bands do not belong
at Summerfest.  It's still a beautiful festival, but the talent has gone way
downhill in the last couple years.  I can name dozens of bands that play in the
bars around Two Rivers, Green Bay and Appleton - now playing at Summerfest.
I don't go there to see that.  If anyone knows how to contact the promoters
please post it.

I absolutely agree. I haven't been to Summerfest in three years when we went specifically to see Santana. Other than the big name acts in the ampitheatre, the bands lately are not worth making the trip and fighting the crowds. Which is too bad because it's a great location and a wonderful way to spend a summer day.

I'm just saying.

Yes it seems when Bo Black left things went downhill - I had hopes for this new guy since
he's our age (I think he went to college in Oshkosh when I did).  I don't know what the
problem is but I've  been there every year since it started so hopefully we will
find at least 1 or 2 days with something good again this year.  I would hate to see
Milwaukee let this festival go down the tubes.

I'm sad to hear the acts are going downhill. Haven't been to Summerfest in a few years myself, but I will say the thing I loved about it, was you had the potential to see several good bands in one day for the mere cost of admission, which is still relatively cheap. Lots of local talent of many styles, nationally known bands, people of many styles and colors, and fun for all ages.  It's also a great way for lesser known bands to be discovered.  Like the summer of 2003, for example, when the hubby and I were looking for a place to escape the rain, and we heard some bluesrock coming from the Potowatami tent and learned of a cool dude named Joe Bonamassa.

Curiosity is one of the permanent and certain characteristics of a vigorous mind.

Summerfest is usually the last week in June and goes through the 4th of July.

It'd be great to schedule a JB concert then. I would drive to Mil. from Michigan to see that.

Summerfest is the largest & longest musical festival in the nation (in the world?). It would really reach the people.  He played the Harley stage in 2001, so I know he is aware of Summerfest.

Becky - small world, we were at the same Potowatomi stage to see Joe.  Marcia Ball was
playing at the same time at a different stage, I remember because my friend left to go
see her.  I agree Summerfest is probably the best done music fest in the world - everything
is top notch - and people watching is fun it itself - Milwaukee really does a great job.
Just wish we could get more blues there.
My dream job would be to help select the bands !

The reason Summerfest is headed downhill is because Bo Black is no longer heading (or is the face) of Summerfest...or so I've heard.

You must have heard that from my post on the first page Nic. big_smile

Roy

pardon my skimming Roy, didn't read that.
I know some people who used to work @ summerfest, and heard some first hand experiences of the erratic behavioral stories of Bo. Like when she (drunk) took a Summerfest Golf Cart through downtown Milwaukee and they had to track her down and get her back on the Summerfest Grounds. Not sure what side did the severing.

I caught Joe the same way, came in out of the rain and there he was. So glad I ran in under that tent!

There isn't even so much as an e-mail address for Summerfest:

http://mobile.summerfest.com/index.cfm?EFA=contact

I doubt our complaints would change the booking. Only decreasing attendance would lead them to believe their booking has gone south.

I will say this though that the Amphitheater usually still gets some very fine performers every year.  Saw Tool last year and seeing Rush this year.

Reviews on Summerfest have been reflecting the downward spiral in real time...especially MilwJournalSentinel...
