Topic: Chris Duarte at Darwins

Just had to mention I caught Chris Duarte gig at Darwins last night in Marietta, GA.
This show was a little different.
Chris did some songs as instrumentals because he felt his voice was going.
Due to amp problems bass player had, there was a crackling buzz in house system.  At one point, Chris and the drummer alone are playing while bass player changed his rig.
As usual I am glad I took ear plugs.  God the power the guy puts out.  Some folks were ripping nakins apart to stuff in their ears.
All of his band members wear plugs but him.  Chris has got to be half deaf.
Nonetheless, a great guy to talk to.
And the music?
Well as he always announces they are there to "play our asses off."
And he always does.
So the music was killer.
I have seen him several times.  Never uses a set list.
Just sheer power in the SRV and Hendrix traditions with them Strat tones.

Lucky you Bluser..Darwin's is tiny so I image the roof was jumping. Sheer power..I think that's right on the money!..Thanks, Cathy

Yes, the small crowd at Shank really bothers me - if people don't come out for this
type of music Shank will not book the blues anymore.  Wish I knew what to do
about this ....  Roy we need to talk more people into going to these shows
somehow.  All my friends are so stubborn and unmotivated - believe me I've
tried.  Jeff is the only one who hangs in there.  Chris puts on an amazing show -
if you get the chance, go see him !

Hi blueser,

We caught Chris this past August in Milwaukee at Shank Hall. First table with Chris right in front of us. I was warned about the volume level so I started with ear plugs in, but half way through the first song I pulled them out. I had to hear that great music without a filter. I never put them back in for the rest of the show. Chris and his band, which were comprised of all Japanese fellows (Bluestone), played for well over 3 hours and just tore the place up. All that in front of a crowd of about 30 people. Someone in the audience apologized to Chris about the small turnout to which he responded, "No problem. we'd play this way if there was just one 1 person in the crowd." And he meant it! You're right too about how nice Chris is to meet and talk to. A very gracious guy.

My god Roy..did you say 30 PEOPLE!...I'd be so embarrased...Chris is fantastic...you probably wont see him back again real soon in that venue.....I went with Deb to see Foghat in this club that Robin Trower is coming to about 8 years ago, Lonesome Dave was still alive then...and we had a similiar crowd...I coulnt believe it...but they held nothing back...even came back for 2 encores!

Re: Chris Duarte at Darwins

Me and my current girlfriend went on a first date to see Chris play in Annapolis, MD this past summer.  Was my first time seeing the guy.  Chris is an extremely intense player and I loved it.  Got a chance to get a few pictures with him after the show...awesome guy.

Re: Chris Duarte at Darwins

Agree on all that has been said about the man, musician. Chris Duarte ranks right up there with you know who as far as being a down to earth, easly aproachable guy. So humble, A true gentleman.  Hey Gary, I have all Kelly Richeys discs up for sale if your interested. I know you're a huge fan of Kellys. Check out the off topics.

Take care everyone. And if I don't meet you no more in this world
Then ill, I'll meet you in the next one and don't be late, don't be late

Re: Chris Duarte at Darwins

Send Kellys disks to your other buddy.
I have most of them.

Re: Chris Duarte at Darwins

Chris Duarte is a great artist but has a much bigger heart.  He won over alot of fans at my son's High School with his generosity for our Baseball team.  Chris, a huge thank you!
