Topic: Mighty Orq / Robin Trower - Jan 26 in Houston
The Mighty Orq and Robin Trower played to a Sold Out audience (958) at the Meridian in Downtown Houston Saturday night. The Mighty Orq played a Smokin’ 30-minute set as follows:
H.O.
4+1
If U Will
Rainy Day
Sweet In Between (extended Intro)
Bass Amp Smokage
John the Revelator
Sweet In Between
I was glad that the Orqsters finally got to play in front of a big crowd and they made the most of it. The band was very tight and sounded great – the hundreds of gigs around town really paid off. The crowd was very enthusiastic and supportive, even cheering them on during the technical difficulties. Orq and Matt did a great job of sliding into John the Revelator while Westside and the Stage Grizzly Bear put out the fire, removed the amp, and plugged into the PA (I guess). Folks around me were very impressed with the songs and of course Orq’s guitar work and singing – hopefully, many of them will be back for the CD release party on Feb 22.
Robin Trower came out and blew me away, again. Here was the setlist:
Twice Removed From Yesterday
Shame The Devil
For Earth Below
No Time
Fool And Me
Roads To Freedom
Islands
Day Of The Eagle
Bridge Of Sighs
Rise Up Like The Sun
Victims Of The Fury
Gonna Be More Suspicious
Hannah
Little Bit O Sympathy
Encore:
Too Rolling Stoned
Go My Way
Another Time, Another Place
I started out 10 feet from the stage to watch the master at work, but moved back to the middle of the room after a few songs. The mix got better and I could hear Davey Pattison’s fine singing more clearly. Glen Letsch was very impressive on Bass and Pete Thompson was solid on Drums. The crowd was totally into it and erupted when Bridge started up. Just like last time, my favorite song was Roads to Freedom – just an extremely kick **** tune. More Suspicious was also memorable.
Not sure how many more times he’ll be able to come back around, but the last 2 visits by Robin Trower have been great.
