You've never heard of South Park?  It's only one of the most hilarious shows....ever.

He's gotta just be playing the class clown.

Only kinda sorta, Ms.Vik.  I've never watched a lot of this stuff because we don't have all the cable channels at the house...by choice.  My son told me it was on the Comedy Channel, and swore while he was laughing.  Making a point at me about content I think.

In the house we're usually reading, talking or practicing our music.  So when I first asked I really didn't know.

Culturally deprived, I reckon...;)  but guilty as charged 'bout clowning.

Much love,

I gotcha... that's cool, and very responsible of you.  In sharp contrast, around my house South Park is pretty much family viewing... granted my son is 17, but I gotta admit he's been watching it for years.  I've never been too particular about what he watched on TV... I just don't think it matters that much, and that family values mean more than anything... and besides, whatever I didn't let him watch here, he'd just end up watching at friends' houses anyway.  Yeah, I know I'm kind of a crappy parent... but he turned out just fine, and he actually watches very little TV because he says it's all crap... South Park being an exception!  tongue

Re: Is Tomorrow's Clapton Playing 'Guitar Hero'?

Thank you for saying that.  I'm sure you've done OK.
I'm psychotic about garbage like that.  The onslaught is never ending.  I really don't worry that much about the kids watching whatever.  I just don't wanna hear it on in my house.  Intereferes with my love life and I never made one red cent yanking my chain in front of a TV.  So I'm the different one.

Oh well  I yam what I yam.  Like I told the local blues society board...If it doesn't get me paid or get me...no I better not repeat that, here.  You get the idea.  It's my time.

FOOTBALL HOWEVER is run up on the bigscreen in HD with 5.1 surround sound.  yippee...and Ms.Tia makes more noise than I do.

And every Friday night for 20 years has been family night with DVD, homemade pizza and cokes all around.   Now the two younger ones 14 & 16 get a little independent but then about that time they magically appear at the house.  I raise hell with'em about never getting any quality time with my wife, but they just laugh at me cause they know I'm full of it and grateful & proud that they're home on Friday night.

The college boy comes home on break and before he goes out on the town Friday night, he'll put the phone down and ask me if we're watching anything good.  I usually say sex and violence.  So he goes out afterwards...I don't argue with him.  He doesn't drink or smoke.  He made Dean's list first semester, freshman year.  So he comes home at 3 AM and I say nothing as long as he turns the lights out.

Geesh I be's chatty tonight.  Anyway they don't watch guitar zero and they don't play mouth park.   (wink)

Much Love
BigJJ

Re: Is Tomorrow's Clapton Playing 'Guitar Hero'?

My daughter got Guitar Hero for Christmas and from what I gather, the kids that really play guitar feel frustrated by the game, since they can play the song better on a real guitar. I don't think they can accept the issue that its a game!  I just read an article about the 2 guys that developed it, they went to MIT together and never thought people would go for the $100 price tag.

About South Park-I use to fret over some of my 2 sons choices in entertainment when they were young teens, to the point I would walk by the tv and say their IQ was lowering every time they watched that crap. big_smile  Fast forward, they invited me to watch particular shows I would HAVE TO  find funny, Michael Jackson, Walmart, Sciencetology, Mel Gibson...South Park is funny, the writers are brilliant IMO, but I don't watch it too much .  And my 18 year old got several offers for a 4 year tuition free college education for academics along with $$ for a National Merit Scholarship and a perfect score in Critical Reading in the SATs, so South Park didn't lower his IQ. lol

What amazes me about South Park is how they get away with what they say!!  The only thing I can figure is they abuse everyone equally, don't single out one race or one religion.  I didn't see this show, but the kids told me about the Katie Couric show.  As I said, I didn't see it, but it seems to me that kinda' pushes the envelope since her husband died of colon cancer in his early 50's and she is just trying to bring awareness to the issue.  They weren't aware of that and I guess that stuff, I'm too sensitive about.

I had a parent 2 years ago question my parenting skills because I was allowing my son to go to a concert on a school night.  He said I put him in a awkward position by allowing my son to go...it was so bizarre.  I stood my ground, bascially he needed to do what was right for him...my son was doing well in school and he gets home at 2:30, he had plenty of time to do homework, etc.  That parent in particular puts way too much pressure on his kid...tells the kid he's not working hard enough with straight A's...Sometimes, I think the kids that are kept too strick get really wild when they go off to college, they don't know how to handle a little freedom.  Just my 2 cents...

I abuse everyone equally.

I just heard somebody say, "No wonder you don't have any friends!"

IMO, Balance and uncommon sense is the key.

Good post Angela.  Thanks.

I will budge far enough off my original post to grant you it's probably the lesser or two evils.

I guess you just haven't seen as many people as I have start listening to Stevie Ray Vaughan and ZZ Top (among others) because of those games. And at least one person I know has started playing the real guitar because of it and has been playing for over a year now.

All I can say, a whole bunch of my friends did, especially compared to how many I turned on by going "Hey listen to this." It puts it in front of them. Heck, one guy today asked me the name of the band and song from the Rock Band commercial, which is Highway Star by Deep Purple, because he was going to download it.
