Nice jazzy sound he has.Is he considered blues or more of a jaz player? I realize some dont always fit into a catagory.

He is a blues guy, but with a lot of jazz thrown in. He plays Red House and a lotta rock as well. I've seen him just shred a SRV tune or two. He plays on an album with Lucky Peterson and on a CD with the old Slack Band. It was quite a bit of really good, straight, dirty blues.
Hard to classify, yes. Larry Carlton is a jazz guy who can play blues. Mel is a blues guy that can play jazz. SRV & Riviera Paradise comes to mind.

Edited to say that tune was done originally by Mel Torme, but I think Herbie Mann made it big on the Memphis Underground set.
OH Jeff, Have I got a good dvd for you. I'll throw it in your box. It's from 2001, Omaha, Mato birthday jam. The Hoax (lite) Chris Duarte and Melvin (the man) Taylor. Melvin Taylor does Blue Jean Blues and it's off the chart KILLER! Some of the sweetest soloing I can ever remember. Lots of Wah WAH, and thats what I like.

I bought it without listening because I had read about him in a musicmagazine.
Never play it, not really my cup of tea, too soft.
But he is a good musician.

On that CD, Andre,
the hardest tune on there is "I'm the Man Down There." It's a Jimmy Reed composition in answer to "One Way Out." Depending on the mood I'm in, it either sets me on fire or it's just another exercise in self indulgence. Lucky Peterson plays with him on it.
I've often wanted to cover the tune in a different arrangement. Just me, I reckon.

That was cool JJ...I watched all the you tube clips...I think he came to Sactown awhile back ..The Sac Blues society had a huge gig...seems to me I saw his name...missed it though...cant make em all!

His playing leaves me cold. Sorry. Then again, I'm not the biggest Jeff Beck fan either, so maybe my taste is just weird.
