Topic: TV somewhat back to normal

I'm sittin' here as I post enjoying new episodes of The Daily Show and my fave The Colbert Report. Nice to have Letterman back too. As far as the rest of it goes I could care less if those shows never come back now that the Soprano's are done. Other than the Soprano's the last show that caught my interest was the X-Files. No wonder I watch so much History, Travel, and Food Network, AHHHHH Giada!!! What do the rest of you think about Prime Time wasteland every night. It's a free country, so don't be afraid to speak out about liking Dancing with the Stars or any other vacant reality shows.

Re: TV somewhat back to normal

Jdawg,
For the most part, I HATE PRIME TIME TV.  It rots the mind.  It is a part of the conspiracy to dumb down America (and the rest of the world).  My opinion.  My kids are capable of thought and intelligent conversation because there is no MTV on ever in my house.  I like Music.

Commercials are insulting.  Colbert at least is funny & engaging.  College boy turned me on to him by giving me his book, cause I wouldn't watch.

Sports is OK, I like that sometimes.  I guess I should be happy that most of the world is glued to the idiot box while I make my rounds.

Wife says I only hate it because of my own failings.  I can't have it on and do anything else.  It distracts me.  She's right.  It's me.  Easily distracted.  What were we talking about?

Re: TV somewhat back to normal

jdawg-TV is a wasteland, the History & Discover channels are good...I have a few trashy shows I sometimes watch (Desperate Housewives and Grey's for McDreamy, but I'm losing interest there) and I started watching House with one kid who thinks he wants to be a neurologist.  I usually read first, but if that sedates me and I don't want to go to bed yet, I flick channels...I like VH1 Classic, if you have that, they are running these specials on Sunday nights at 8 that just started...some of their shows are great, that ACDC concert I saw was fabulous! The first VH1 show was of Clapton this past week, I'd never see it before...to follow Bowie, Springsteen...several others.  About Giada...my hubby's got it bad for her, he also likes Nigella I think... I bought him Giada's DVDs since he really is a wonderful cook.  I have to ask you, some of us girlzs think her head and mouth just seem way too big proportionally for her petitie frame, we do all agree she is gorgeous!  Did you know she was pregnant & she's married to someone on morning tv, not sure who. But she made some really stupid statement about how surprised she was that she was pregnant...blah. blah...I got the distinct feeling she might not be thrilled to have a baby...hope her child never hears that...

Currently, my favorite commercial is the Kia one with the guy that shakes it up to the old Flashdance song...I'm a maniac...

Re: TV somewhat back to normal

Angela, I wouldn't say Giada is exactly petite, I've watched her travel shows and she seems to be curvacious in all the right places regardless of whether she's enhanced or not. She's no air head either, I don't know if you caught her bio on Food Network, but she has a degree in anthropology from UCLA. She decided to pursue a career in food after working in the Itialian food shop her movie producer grandfather Dino deLaurentis started in LA. She studied at the Cordon Bleu in Paris and almost bagged it because it was all taught in french, no exceptions. Now I'm gettin' hungry, let's eat!

Re: TV somewhat back to normal

The Simpsons
South Park
King Of The Hill
Futurama
Family Guy
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart
The Colbert Report
Monk
Scrubs
Mythbusters

And if not those, my tv is usually turned to Comedy Central, ESPN, or the History Channel.

Did my eyes deceive me last night? Did Conan sport a beard? Creepy.

Re: TV somewhat back to normal

jdawg-since when can't a woman be petite and curvaceous???  wink  I don't think she's an air head AT ALL, just a stupid comment.  Cool about her grandpop and I saw the travel show once...fun job traveling around and sampling good food. I'm not sure if I ever mentioned this story...when the hubby studied in Italy, he lived in Siena and befriended a local named Marco, who lived at home with his family.  Fast forward 20 something years, I went to the town library and checked out some books & VHS tapes, one was a tape on the history of Italy and we're all watching it and all of sudden, Anthony starts yelling...Marco's dad...Marco's dad..(he was in the video) He was an archaeologist and they were talking about this dig he was involved with...small world story. smile

Re: TV somewhat back to normal

I guess I don't quite understand the petite concept, and the air head comment was just to point out she has some book smarts as well as cooking smarts and in a general meaning. I wasn't aiming the comment at any one in particular.

Re: TV somewhat back to normal

Lets see, petite & curvaceous???  I'm 6'6" tall.  Any woman that's not a beanpole or a blimp would...oh never mind.

Ms.Tia made me watch Criminal Minds last night.  Not bad for TV...LORD GOD I hate the commercials.

Re: TV somewhat back to normal

dawg-we are having a Venus vs. Mars moment...I think we agree she's gorgeous and has a wicked good figure and is a hell of a chef with the smarts!! Another package deal!  So, have her cooking tips helped you in the kitchen at all or are you watching her show just to salivate? lol I have the hardest time saying Giada's name.

Re: TV somewhat back to normal

Since we picked up a DVR my evenings are often spent watching recorded episodes of High Stakes Poker and Poker After Dark. Those DVR's are the coolest things since sliced bread!

Re: TV somewhat back to normal

I hear ya Stu..If I couldn't record and watch, which means FF thru commercials, I would go nuts. I like TV..I know..but I do. Directv has enough options to make "regular" channels a side note. I do like Ugly Betty, Reaper, Pushing up Daisies and Sunday Morning. I also watch lots of Sundance, Bravo, Discovery Channel and TLC....Most of the time I'm just listening as I'm a bit hyper and don't sit still much! lol            Cathy

Besides her being easy on the eyes, I do like to cook and I love Italian dishes(no pun intended). I've got a few of Giada's as well as some of Ina Garten's recipes stashed in my recipe drawer in the kitchen. When I was going through my radiation treatments and could barely tolerate water and Ensure milkshakes I'd watch the Food Network a lot and just dream about eating all the good stuff they were making. I dropped 35 lbs. in about 5 weeks, but I don't recommend that diet to anyone. The Venus and Mars moments keep it all interesting don't you think?

P.S. I dig Michael Chiarello's and Guy Fieri's shows too, after all they're the west coast contributions to Food Network. Michael is in Napa and Guy is out of the Santa Rosa area where he has a couple of restaraunts.
