Topic: Al Di Meola Interview (Joe's influence)

Hey everyone,

I'd like to share with you an archived interview we conducted with Al Di Meola during his tour in early 2007 which now available for the first time to the public (it was previously published at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA).

Please check it out at www.guitarmessenger.com (Click the pic of Al in the center or go to 'Interviews' at the top menu.)

Hope you dig it! Meola is one of Joe's biggest influences, so I figured you guys might enjoy checkin this out!

Al was one of my early favorites,no I would say he was my favorite guitar player back in the 70's.I was drawn to his fusion work.both with Return To Forever and his solo work.He still is putting out some great music. Not so much the firery rock style as his earlier years, but one cannot deny his talent.Hall of fame in my book.

Just listened to Elegant Gypsy a few weeks ago.  Al is certainly a grade A+ player.  One of my personal favs.

I really like when he discusses rhythm and timing, which is something I have struggled with for quite a while.  I'd love to get more insight into how he developed his "foot tapping" and what he has practiced to further develop his "inner rhythm" and what not.

MontiusWinston,
Have you seen the Guitar One issue with Eric Johnson on the cover?  Joe was also on that cover on the right-hand side.  Anyway, there was an interview with Al Di Meola where he discusses just that.  The issue has been referred to alot here as it is also the one with the infamous Dunlop Jazz pick.  It is in my studio, but I'll try to remember to grab it later . . .

Yeah, actually I do have that one.  I'll have to go back through it and reread it.  I'd forgotten that he discussed that in there!  Thanks!
