Re: Jimmy Herring blues-rock/fusion guitar solo
Very Cool - Jimmy Herring can play! But I can't imagine listening to that for hours - I kind of prefer the understated finesse of Carlton and Ford. But that being said, Jimmy can wail - especially if you check out some of his other YouTube clips.
Re: Jimmy Herring blues-rock/fusion guitar solo
Some of Jimmy's tone (and note selection) reminds me a lot of Carl Verheyen...

Re: Jimmy Herring blues-rock/fusion guitar solo
yeah, he knows some chops...but that would get annoying after awhile. Hey hopefully I'm that good when I'm as old as Moses. J/k, the guy is good
Re: Jimmy Herring blues-rock/fusion guitar solo
ive seen jimmy alot and i have to say he sucks . the guy plays the same thing over and over in every song . every jam i have ever heard him do all sound the same . i can put together a whole cd full of his jams from different songs and they will all sound like one long jam ...well thats my 2 cents .joe

Bwahahaha how do you REALLY feel?? LMAO.... I'm guessin yer off Jimmy's Xmas card list for next year......LOL
Re: Jimmy Herring blues-rock/fusion guitar solo
i think jimmy is great, he mixes blues with more complex harmonic vocabulary. he is well versed in jazz, blues, rock and country. I feel is playing is always new and exciting...especially on Derek Trucks Band record called "Out of the Madness"
Re: Jimmy Herring blues-rock/fusion guitar solo
Good call, Jamey. I think I've raved about Jimmy here before.
Well, coming from a jazz-fusion background, I think Jimmy Herring is great and although I've only seen him play one show (compared to a zillion that JoeBeacon has seen) I think he's great, amazing tone, sure it's a bit showy technique-wise, but I'm a guitar nut, so it's all good. I was this close (as the YouTube footage) in a smallish club in Baltimore and I thought he was just amazing. Ironically, it was probably his solo in the same song as shown on YouTube (Compared to What is the name of the song) that I first heard and blew me away the first time I heard him. Come to think of it, it did sound a LOT like that LOL.

Well, if we all liked the same thing...it'd be a very boring world.

Re: Jimmy Herring blues-rock/fusion guitar solo
carl you are right not everyone likes the same stuff and it would be pretty boring if people all like the same thing . but as for jimmy , i saw about 30 or so phil lesh shows with jimmy , a bunch of allman brothers shows , a few dead shows ,a bunch of dragon fly and i have seen him play with about 10 or so different bands so i have got a good taste of him and i got to say he doesn't taste that good lol..joe

Re: Jimmy Herring blues-rock/fusion guitar solo
Joe: I figured you had a broad range of experiences, but that is just TMI ROFL! I guess if I'd seen him that much I might be thinking the same as you...but for now, it's still fresh. I had the wonderful opportunity to see him with Bobby Lee Rodgers of the Code Talkers, Jeff Sipe on drums and some monster bass player named Neil Fountain. I thought it was an awesome show, and the venue (8x10 in Baltimore) encourages taping, in fact, provides a board patch if the artist is okay with it. I got a pretty great-sounding recording even on MiniDisc :-)
Knew he'd toured with Phil & Friends and the Dead...hadn't heard of Dragonfly. Would have been killer to see P&F with him and Warren at the same time, at least once :-)
