Topic: Classy winter destination!

Daytona Beach and surrounding area is so classy that bag ladies here push baby carriages instead of grocery carts.  Winos carry backpacks & cell phones.  What next?

Re: Classy winter destination!

LOUD!  CROWDED!  It can be a pain in the butt if you have to drive thru cause you're workin nearby.  I know how to handle that though.  Couple years back it was worse yet.  Rednecks paying $30 per sixpack and starting trouble.  A few locals had a chat with em.

Now it's cool again and about the CARS!  MsTia's boss, Doc himself went last year and had a blast.  He gave a glowing report...very exciting.  He's a car nut, too.  I love it too, but not fanatic.

I ride a big fat cruiser bike and that's a cool as I can be.  Ha!

Yeah, check it out sometime.  It's the acme of Oval racing from the buzz I hear.

Re: Classy winter destination!

Ya know, way back in 70's; Daytona Beach was the best; drive the van right down the beach.  So it;s still that way?

A buddy sent me a dvd bootleg of SRV Daytona show; real poor quality but great show. Have ya ever seen that one?   I hear it's being released soon by Jimmie Vaughn.  Have you seen that one?

Re: Classy winter destination!

Hello Jeff..You are in Florida and gravity pulls lots of the elderly in your direction...There are quit a few spots in Florida that are Opulent at the least. Stayed at the La Playa once and had my first cabana boy..too funny and not my style. You have every flavor there is in the Sunshine State. As I age I'm more of a Gulf Coast girl, but they know how to party in Daytona. I want everybody to save their old Bluetooth ear pieces so we can give them to the poor old souls that walk around talking to themselves all day..That way they'll just look like people walking around talking to themselves..oh, wait...well you get the image...Cathy

Re: Classy winter destination!

People can you feel it?  Love is in the air.

Zhur:
First town I ever had the police run me out of was Daytona Beach in '71.  Things were different then.  But you can still drive on the beach in certain areas.  Didn't see SRV show you mentioned.  I'll look for release.
Cathy:
Gravity.  RIGHT.  I roared when you wrote "had", then said "not my style."  lol  Party place yes but I work to keep the blues alive here and it's an exercise in futility.  Started gigging with new band, making decent money and one of the old dirtbags came in and underbid us, saying we shouldn't be making that kind of money out of the gate.  I ripped him a new one in front of his crowd, hinted that he didn't know who he was dealing with, then informed him he should be charging more, too. Not cutting my money.  The icing on the cake came less than a month later, when I walked into one of the Blues clubs one night and the recording star on stage saw me come in & announced to that whole crowd that the Funky Dr. of Love was alive and well (much to his amazement) and in the house.   Kiss me on my ego! wink  I used to go to the Gulf Coast to get away...go figure.

Oh and another thing, Rolio.  I'll give you a peso if you can name "that lady" and the name of the movie.  Let the frantic internet search begin.  Don't tell him, sister Cate.  HA HA HA!

Yippee.

Re: Classy winter destination!

Ah yes, beautiful Daytona Beach. When I was a kid my family would visit my grandmother in Dunedin on the Gulf Coast every other Christmas. Memories of swimmin' in the warm Gulf water on Christmas Day. On our last treck down there before moving to Ca. my dad thought a trip to Daytona for New Years was in order. No sooner did we get there than my brother and I threw on our trunks and made a mad dash to the ocean just outside our hotel. What a rude surprise, The Atlantic in Jan. ain't the Gulf, we did all our swimmin' in the heated hotel pool for the rest of the trip. My birthday Feb. 18th lands on race day every so often and sadly Dale Sr. met his maker on my B-day. The fact it hits on my birthday is why it's the only race I ever watch with any interest. On a normal day I can be at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma Co. in 20 min. This is where NASCAR actually turns right every June and the local boy from Vallejo, #24 usually wins.

Jdawg!

Rude surprise indeed.  One summer my brother (6 stringer) and I took a bike trip.  We left Richmond to ride to the Outer Banks.  It was 96.  We arrived, checked in and fell out.  Just gross, everything hurt and wind burned.
Next morning got up and ate then headed to Ocean,  The cutie at the desk told me that the ocean was 56, even tho the air was 96.  I winked and said, "Don't tell Bob." She didn't.
Bob plopped down on water's edge in the sand to relax for a minute and I waited.  After 6-8 minutes one of those creeper waves rolled in and covered him up.  He was asleep by then.

I'm almost peeed my pants, laughing at him.  He turned instantly blue, sat straight up with this wild look and screamed at the top of his lungs, "F------- me!"  and scrambled, crab-like, backwards, up the beach, away from that tide.

still laughing
