Re: Bose system

I know this may rub Bose lovers/owners the wrong way and I absolutely do not want to offend anyone. I am writing this post only to offer more sources of information so that you can make a more educated purchase.  I know that I am coming from a middle high end prospective with a system that I have over $7,000 invested in, but I do quite a bit of research and assist friends and family in their purchases of systems ranging from $220 to $2000. I use AV Science forum quite extensively to gain knowledge in audio and video equipment. Most AV Science forum members audition and/or own the equipment that they write about and give honest opinions because they do not have an ulterior motive unlike salesman. When I decide on what I feel is the right piece of equipment for myself or a friend I then purchase the equipment online (sometimes used on audiogon, ebay, etc.) at a fraction of the retail price.

Bose systems are extremely over priced (at thier retail price) and that is because they spend so much on advertising and marketing. Here is a thread from AV Science forum discussing Bose and alternatives to Bose for the same price.

Believe me I am not a "know it all" I fell for the "white van speaker scam" several years ago...making a snap judgement without doing any research.

BTW $400 for that Bose system is a very good deal and a hard one to pass up.

The best under $500 system (used) I've come across is a Polk "all in one system" that retailed for $2600. I was able to find it on ebay on two occasions for under $500 shipped. I purchased this system for two different friends and they are absolutely astonished by its build quality....piano black finish on all of the speakers and unbelievable sound quality.

Again I am not writing this to offend anyone and bottom line if you are happy with your purchase that is all that really counts.

Re: Bose system

white van speakers,lol

It happened to two of my brothers as well. Neither one had told one another until one evening several years ago. We had a pretty good chuckle out of it. You can google "white van speaker scam" and read all of the stories.

you gotta beware of too good to be true ebay deals tho...

You are correct...you need to stick with honest sellers with stellar ratings and the more the ratings the better. The Polk speakers were made in 2002 and I bought them in 2006 so I new they were 4 years old and expected a deep discount from the list price. Both sellers had very good ebay ratings. I have nearly 400 ratings as both a buyer and a seller and I have a perfect 100% positive rating score to date and will do almost anything it takes to keep it that way. People trust me and I trust other sellers with similiar ratings.

As it turns out the person who has the Bose system for sale backed out on my low ball offer. So as much as I like the look of the Bose little cubes, I can't afford what they sell for new.  Heading out to Circuit City over the weekend to let my ears pick out a system. Thanks for all the input. Much appreciated.

Take care everyone. And if I don't meet you no more in this world
Then ill, I'll meet you in the next one and don't be late, don't be late

Re: Bose system

My how things change. I get an email from the guy that I offered 400 for the Bose and he countered with 450. I jumped. Picked it up a few hours ago. It took several hours to hook it up, hide all the wires. WOW, I'm impressed. First dvd.....what else, ANDY.  The lead in ANDY never ever sounded so good.     now if I could ever find those hidden dancers in the dvd..............

Take care everyone. And if I don't meet you no more in this world

Re: Bose system

NO Jeff..Not the "dancers"..Pox on the thought! The DVD should be doctored and they should be sent to photoshop Limbo!  They remind me of junky hookers on the "block" in Baltimore.   Other than that, happy that Billy Ray Cyrus's daughter could bring you such joy! Rock on..Your G.W. Bonabuddy

Re: Bose system

Thanks Cathy. Hanna actually got me my lap top. The Bose was my X Mas , B day, gift to myself.   And seriously, are there any hidden scenes in the dvd?

Re: Bose system

MAN I'M SO PISSED!  Somehow my ANDY dvd quit working. Won't play in my computer/Toshiba.  No where.  Where can I buy a new copy of the dvd? I don't need the silt cd combo. Just the dvd. Anyone help me?    So when it quit playing I popped in Rockpalast. Gotta admit the power trio with Kenny and Eric were so tight. And Holy Blues Deluxe! Everything sounds so much better now with the Bose.  But seriously, I need a new ANDY dvd.  PLEASE help.

Take care everyone. And if I don't meet you no more in this world

Re: Bose system

AWWW, so the wifey comes clean. You see this how it went down. After spending all day hooking up the Bose, hiding the massave pile of wires I settle in to the favorite recliner remote in hand ready to crank up ANDY. The dog starts whining, wants to go out for a walk. OK I'll take her. Pop out the dvd lay it carefully on the tv stand, face up. Take the dog out come home only to get sidetracked to light the grill. Forgot about the dvd laying in the dogs site. Yep you guessed it, Patience looked at it as a toy since daddy always has it out.   Wifey tried to clean up the scratches and drool and neatly placed it back where I left it.  Popped it back in after dinner (pork chops on the grill) and all of a sudden it doesn't play.  So after wiping my tears and composing myself plugged in Rockpalast. Wifey tells me this morning what had happened.   Help me out?

Take care everyone. And if I don't meet you no more in this world

Re: Bose system

Hey Jeff don't know if it's too far gone, but my son fixed a DVD that was beyond salvage with a Memorex CD/DVD cleaner he got at Wal Mart for $20.  Couldn't believe it.

Maybe that'll help.

Re: Bose system

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've been meaning to pick up a skip doctor, now I have a reason.   But as it turns out I found a copy I had burned as a back up in case anything ever happened to the original.  So needless to say I was doing the happy dance. Wifey looking at me, wondering what the hell I was on. That's another story but we won't go there.  So on this New years eve I'm sitting at home watching dvds while wifey sleeps. Got a real barn burner going here.  Happy New Year everybody.   And as always, THANKS.
