Topic: Arc Angels Dec 30 in Houston

Fantastic show by the Arc Angels at the Warehouse Live in downtown Houston tonight…very similar to my memory of them in 1995 at the Tower Theater, except this time I was 10 feet in front of DBII.  The sound in the venue was superb, the guitars were searing, the singing was clear, and the bass and drums were pounding thru my spinal cord.
Set list:
Paradise Café
Carry Me on
Famous Jane
Good Time
She’s Alright
Always Believed in You
Sent By Angels
Angel (Hendrix)
Crave and Wonder
Sweet Nadine
Outside Woman Blues
Spanish Moon
Shape I’m In
Living in a Dream
Encore:
Come Together
Too Many Ways to Fall
DBII was acting all aloof and disinterested, always fiddling with his equipment and making weird faces - but he never missed a note.  He sang great and his slide work was outstanding.  He also played a lot of acidic, harmonizing riffs to accompany Charlie Sexton’s very impressive guitar playing and singing.  Chris Whipper Layton was way solid as always and Tommy Shannon (packing a few extra pounds) tightly laid down the low end.
A good way to end 2007..........

Re: Arc Angels Dec 30 in Houston

come on down to Texas, cause I think they only play the occasional Austin, Dallas, or Houston show....

Re: Arc Angels Dec 30 in Houston

Sounds like an interesting show.  I thought it was Chris "Whipper" Layton...

"Whipper" is correct.

No plans to reform, they do a few shows every year and that is it.

It is an interesting show, but we wish they'd update it.

DB II normally carries that same stage presence where he seems disinterested and fiddles with his gear a lot. Sometimes joking or messing around with other band members. We've seen him act exactly the same way when on stage as part of Clapton's band. Peculiar.

Yep. It's time for that guy to get into the studio and release a new one. Been six years since Welcome.

Re: Arc Angels Dec 30 in Houston

Glad to hear the Arc Angels are still getting together once in a while.

Santa brought me the Crossroads DVD from Chicago, which has some scorching licks by DBII. Would have liked to catch them. Any chance of them coming West to Oregon???

My Rockin Santa also brought the Mule Tale of 2 Cities DVD set. I highly recommend it!!

Currently, I am reading the Clapton Autobiography. Very readable, and gives a great insight into the life of a mega-star.

Enjoy the New Year!!

Re: Arc Angels Dec 30 in Houston

Chris Layton is thinking to change his nickname to Whipper Snapper, due to his advanced years.
Actually, both he and Tommy Shannon looked pretty good considering their longevity in the music biz.
It's hard to believe that TS played at Woodstock with Johnny Winter - now that's a lot of bass notes....

Re: Arc Angels Dec 30 in Houston

the funniest thing was watching 3 different stage hands trying to find a Guitar Pick that suited DBII....I kept thinking I was watching some brilliant mad scientist at work....he never seemed comfortable, but was laying down some amazingly sweet sounds, especially when using the Slide.

Peculiar, yeah.  Brilliant, mad scientist, yeah.  Left-handed, yeah.  His strat a POS, yeah. (Well on of 'em is) Can he play?  OH YEAH.  He's on one of Susan Tedeschi's albums.  Hope & Desire?  DBII & Derek with her singing that soulful, gospel, bluesy stuff that hard-core rockers may not like.  Something different is good.

Feeling purty good for the shape I'm in.

Re: Arc Angels Dec 30 in Houston

Hi Spongeworthiest,

A co-worker of mine was at that same show!  He was right up front, too.  He didn't bring his camera.  By chance if you (or someone you know) have photos on line, could you post the link?

Thanks a bunch,

Tara
