One hell of an album they made from that show.My favorite  Hendrix.

Your rock candy baby
Your hard sweet and sticky

Re: Band of Gypsies Hendrix

It is one of my 2 favorites by Jimi.....I have never ever asked or suggested anyone to cover it......the lyrics are haunting....but anyways

Re: Band of Gypsies Hendrix

I remember vividly when I bought BOG on cassette when I was 12 years old- a couple of years after it was recorded around 1972; Machine gun still scares the crap outta me even now- just with the sheer intensity of Jimi's playing.  It pretty much changed my life as I then took to playing guitar seriously from then on- and I'm happy to say made a career out of it, as I'm now a College professor teaching popular music technology and still play in two bands!

In a strange bit of serendipity many years later I had the pleasure of knowing the guy that did the artwork inside the original BOG gatefold sleeve, and Jimi signed him a copy as by way of thanks.  My friend said on meeting Jimi he was incredibly shy but very polite.  My friend graciously showed me the LP cover and let me scan it, and now a framed copy resides on my study wall...

I'm gigging New Years Eve tonight and although I wouldn't attempt Machine Gun ;-)!!! We cover 'Them Changes' as a regular part of our set... 'Them Changes' indeed...

Happy New Year to you all...

This don't look like no express way to me...

Re: Band of Gypsies Hendrix

"First of all Happy New Year." quoting Hendrix. I'll leave out the rest since its political commentary is relevent today.

Definatley my favorite Hendrix album. The only one I have bought on CD. I bought the album the day it came out I was eleven years old. It had been getting airplay on then underground FM radio. Sam Stone was the DJ. Not bad for a album just to fill out contractual agreements. I still listen to Power of Soul or Love. I always prefered Buddy's drumming to Mitch. Billy and Buddy belong in the best Rythum section thread. They added a pocket to Jimi's playing.

Re: Band of Gypsies Hendrix

I got the double disc from the Filmore recorded on New Years eve 1969 and New Years day, it's amazing....for example.."hear my train comin".....the first night it's a little up tempo....the second he slows it way down....I'm pretty sure Jimi had a looonngg new years eve, anyways it's awsome...I'm sure alot of us own that dbl disc album....I'm home tonight....think I'll crank it up..no make that waaaayyyyy up!!!!!!!!.........sorry neighbors

Happy new years to all.......and get a DD....dont risk driving...please

Some years ago I ordered the print of the poster from this show, one of my favorites. If I can remember, I'll photograph it and post a link to the photo tonight. What a time during our lives......
