Re: Dave Mathews/Joe B

Interesting that outside the US some have to look up Dave Matthews on the internet to find out who he is. Assumed Dave was as well know in Europe etc as he is here.  I have to admitt I was never a big fan but he is so diverse. We have a 23 and 20 yr old that like him. I I have listened to alot of his music and have found some of it to my liking.

I live near "nothingville" Hartford and Dave sells out back to back nights in a 30,000 seat venue every year. If we want to get add'l exposure for Joe - to non blues fans - I say vote early and often. Not to say Dave Matthews draws the nicest looking women to his shows then any other act going...

Re: Dave Mathews/Joe B

I'M on Both sides of the fence here Because While i agree with most peoples comments here on this one .
It won't do Joe any harm in the exposure to large Audiences , but as for limited stage time for Joe & the boys Power 100 minutes , Reduced to maybe around 45 , will it cut to another audience who are anticipating another sound ( but on the other hand Joe & the guys will probably blow most audieces socks right outta the arena's ) Joe has been touring continuesly on his own for years now , built up a huge following stateside & europeside too .... So a little change of a 30 or so date tour will be something fresh and challenging to the guys ... and them 4 do like a musical challenge
And Agree with Joe Beacon too that i would prefer to see Joe Bogie Rick Carmine Building their own show as a Headline band in larger theaters gradually as they have been , But as i said once in a while ( Change it up ) ............ Roy & all at William Morris will do what's best for JB , and Bottom Line Joe will choose wisely

Would prefer someone like in the Blues Vein ( KWS or Even Guitar Appreciative Audiences Joe Satriani / Gov Mule ) But 30'000 Crowds , really cant turn down that exposure ....... Just My 2 Penny's LOL wink

Re: Dave Mathews/Joe B

i think it would be great for joe to play big shows like this and hopefuly bring in new fans . i am not telling anyone what to do or not to do just letting you know what i think about it that's all . i always seem to get people a little pissed at me on here lol just my nature ..joe

Re: Dave Mathews/Joe B

Ok Deezer, I take your point. I've just spent the last half hours cruising round you tube listening to Dave Mathews and although not to my taste, I think Joe could actually make a big impact on Dave's audience. So yes, it would be a good move!

Re: Dave Mathews/Joe B

I'm on the fence about this (not about voting. I mean Joe opening for a big-time act). I'm just selfish enough to want to continue seeing Joe in small venues, paying reasonable ticket prices and having the opportunity to meet Joe afterwards. Once Joe hits the big time you can kiss all of that goodbye.

However, since I love Joe to death, want to see him become hugely successful, and I have no doubt this is what he wants then I'll vote for him (early and often as they say in Chicago) and wish him well.

I'm just saying.

Re: Dave Mathews/Joe B

They are largely a big college draw. I know about 10-15 people who I'm pretty good friends with that DMB freaks and only a couple of them are over 25. I mean, they have seen them about 10-15 times, one guy uses his spring break every year to go see them on tour somewhere.

Some people might not like this but if you asked the majority of music fans elsewhere in the world who Dave Mathews was, you'd get a big blank look. I had to look on wikipedia to find out who he was. It's my guess that Joe, if he wants to support a well known act, should select someone with a wider appeal, and yes, the Eagles might be a better bet! That way he would get in front of new fans!

LOL!

I get really annoyed around here...people say "I'm going to see DAVE this weekend" I'm like Dave who?  Eveyone knows "Dave" means Dave Matthews Band. I was just bein cynical (and annoyed).

Go to any US college campus and you will see dorms with multitudes of posters of Dave Matthews, Bob Marley, and Grateful Dead.

The demographic of DMB is one of the most widespread of the current times...Business people, teens, stoners, preppies, jocks, musicians, educators....across the board. If you go to a DMB concert, you'll see all walks of life....INCLUDING the demographic of people who love to spend money on cds, memorabillia, etc. Whereas Eagles fans are a concentrated demographic and seem to blow all their money on the ticket.

Some people are simply obsessed with "travelling" to see DMB at every consecutive show they can. Get those people to see Joe 3 or 4 time in a row....they'll start to love Joe too. good theory anyways....

Re: Dave Mathews/Joe B

I guess the question mark at the end of the thread title has lead to this debate....We think Joe is the best and anything that doesn't reflect that "bugs" us...But, we also always whine about the need to get Joe exposed to new fans. Then we get the rare request from the W.M. folks to help make this happen..so..that's what we do! I went to the Horde Tour years ago..The Allman Bro's, Blues Traveler and this guy I didn't know Dave Mathews...I was very impressed..He may not be everyone's taste but he is talented and audiences get into his shows. As Martha would say "It's a good thing".              Cathy

I voted twice, once at my home PC and once at work. It said it took my submission so I don't see the problem. smile

Re: Dave Mathews/Joe B

Besides, wouldn't it be neater to see how many people would actually get the word out on Joe, rather than just a few people stuffing the ballot box? I would hope that our numbers are strong enough to get that done without resorting to that.

You need to add use a different Email address...a different VALID Email  address and a different computer NETWORK (for each different address)=golden

Edit: Sorry Jane, I see you set things straight also.  Don't risk invalidation! I have personally enlisted a bunch of DMB fans I know...Nancy, Dave Matthews association MAY actually get you in CHEAP, IF you know a DMB Warehouse member-they often get choice free ticket"S" and usually before sale or just thereafter...Joe for free=priceless

Wow, that is sad that you did not get to see Frampton play a note. His playing is amazing. In the last couple of years his live shows have been some of the best in his career. Lot of great guitar.

Re: Dave Mathews/Joe B

I don't care if Andrew was asking our help get Joe an opening slot for the Bay City Rollers. I suspect he (and WMA) knows more about this biz (and what's good for one of their artists) than the rest of us combined. It's a no-brainer and I'm surprised it's created 4 pages of discussion...well, scratch that. When I think about it I'm not surprised.  I remember when I was pushing the Street Team "Tell Rolling Stone about Joe" thing. We ended up with a massive thread about how Rolling Stone was lame and irrevelant, and then wondered why we never got any attention from them.

This is one of the the first places DM's people are going to visit if we are successful in getting their attention. I think we should keep that in mind as we share our opinions here...? Just a thought smile
