I just mentioned in another post that I don't consider myself a blues fan in the purist sense...  This kinda proves it for me.  I don't even know who the hell most all of these people are on the list besides Robert Randolph.  I've always been a jamband fan for the most part and that's where I'd put Randolph.  I cross genres when I find talented people.  It might matter some to him whether or not he gets recognized (along with perks/recognition I assume that comes with it)..however,   if I could only keep one artists work on the iPod or on the shelf at home, it would be JB's cd's.  If I could only afford to buy tickets to see one show, it would still be Joe.  (Sorry Bonaroo buds..better hope I don't ever run low on dough or you'll lose your ride..  smile   )   Bottom line?  Bonamassa will remain my favorite regardless of some BS list.  Rambling done.

History repeats. Joe's tenure on the BOD at the BF ends next year. I can't say they have been supportive of Joe..Didn't even make his BITS programs easy for him to do..I admire that he's hung in there and he works very hard to allow the blues to grow w/out antiquated guide lines. It is a shame he doesn't get the recognition, YET...You can't keep a good man down...Luckily he's alot younger than most of his distracters....Who knows how they come up with the nominees..I will say there's some good people on that list..Watermelon Slim is a must see..Good man.. Just saw Nora Jean Brusco this year and she's a riot. So, let's keep Joe's sales high. But, support these artists..They're not the problem.  Cathy

I got in trouble for this last year.  So I expected the same this year. Especially this year.  We have had frank discusions at the blues foundation about the nominating process.  I am just proud to have spurned the conversation.  They realize there is a problem.  Im for all the nominees.  I was for last years as well.  I just dont see and attention payed to contempary blues women and men who are crossover acts.  I include myself in this category.  Artist who draw crowds from different generes and are still proud to call themselves a blues artist.  I still am.  There is a disconect thats what needs to be worked on.. No use for me to dust off the tuxedo this year again.  No worries.. I never bought one in the first place.

It's a cryin shame that some people either don't recognize it or recognize it but don't want to give proper credit.

It really is a shame, Joe. You could/should realistically be in at least 6 of those categories. What you said after the nominations last year really shouldn't have mattered in this years nominations. An artist should be nominated for their work, not for their opinions.

Unfortunately It wouldnt of mattered what my opinions were last year.  I still laugh honestly at it all.  Never fight with your girlfriend catch a cold/in the cold drink a glass of scotch and get shunned out of the handys..  Bad combo. I felt bad about how I said but stood by the underlying pervailing though which was that young progressive blues musicians are not only not invited to the kiddie table at these things but  arent  even invited to the dinner.  We are taken to Chuck -e- cheese the night before and given a pat on the back..  Just kidding.. kinda...
Anyway I love Jay and Paul and all my fellow board members and the foundation itself.  Its just how it is.. Im fine with it... Last year not so fine with it.  I can wrap up this year with my head held high.. 10 weeks #1 on bilboard not too bad..King of the ant hill as we kept refering to it.   Voted best blues guitar player w/ Buddy Guy in Guitar Player.. Sold out gigs around the world.  All because the fans put me there..  No other reason, no so called experts , just gracious and generous people believing in me.
A commemorative plaque wouldnt  change anything..  Nor will a handy or grammy give the winners the same feight that I currently enjoy...  Im the luckiest SOB  or as Phil Cornel may say.. Sunna @#$$ in the world..  ( sorry Phil)

    No doubts whatsoever of what you have accomplished.  Your name is showing up all over the place.  Primo example: Cover of Guitar Edge....MEET THE NEW GUITAR HEROES!!  It may take a little more work, but you have built a solid foundation and all in due time.....all in due time Joe Bonamassa. (Think I've heard you sing those words...."..all good things come in their due time..." smile )  And what pride you can take in saying, "I did it my way."  Nothing more admirable in a man that makes his own way.

If you think about it, at the essence of the blues is an attitude of taking on the injustices of the world and rising above them them. The blues rose out of the plight of an entire race of people being being singled out and disrespected simply because they were "deemed" different.

I don't want to push the analogy any futher because you can't compare being slighted over a commemorative plaque as Joe called it to the systemic mistreatement of generations of human beings. But it's interesting that a body of blues enthusiasts would take this kind of exclusionary attitude. Isn't it ironic, don't you think? (apologies to Alanis Morissette)

Maybe its just a matter of expanding some sub catagories,like the grammies eventually included metal,alternative ,ect.That would be the easiest thing to do if the powers to be can accept that blues isnt a one trick pony.

I'm stewing on this one so I may keep posting my rambling thoughts but..... I find it hard to understand how , for example, Zydeco fits into the "Blues" definition and "Blues/Rock doesn't???!!! Sadly, Rock doesn't really claim Blue/Rock"...There's a show on VH1 right now that covers the 7 "types" of rock...no mention of Blues/Rock....That's why we created planet Blues/Rock here on the forum...Think about who else resides there with Joe..My favorites...Walter Trout, Chris Durate, Albert Cummings, to name a few..Maybe it's time for a Blues/Rock Society!!!    Long Live King Joe!!!!                          Cathy         P.S.
