Topic: Just Got Paid

I was just listening to the download of Shepherd's Bush and I heard a segment in Just Got Paid that sounded just like Warren Haynes! .... The only other person I admire as much as JB.  How cool it would be to see those two together.

Re: Just Got Paid

Just keep an eye on both of their tour schedules to see if they connect in the same place one of these days. They have teamed up in the studio more than once in the past.

Warren and Joe are 2 of my all time favorites and that would be one heck of a gig.

Re: Just Got Paid

I thought Warren Haynes said bad things about Joe and the future of the blues? Haynes sounded like a purist? I may have it all wrong. You know how the rumor mill circulates.... I'd like someone to set me straight on this.  I do like Gov't Mule stuff.

As far as I can remember, there was a little misunderstanding between Joe and I think Walter Trout back quite a while ago, but they've definitely let bygones be bygones.  Clouds On The Horizon and that concert Joe sat in with Walter on were awesome.  Maybe that's what you were thinking of, Nick?

I haven't heard that- Warren was on ANDY- he wrote (or co-wrote don't remember) If Heartaches Were Nickels... I always thought Warren and Joe were supportive of eachother...

Re: Just Got Paid

No way at all Warren is what you would call a "purist."  He is absolultely way too progressive for a title like that.  You might be thinking of Chris Duarte and saying bad things about KWS?

Re: Just Got Paid

Hey Roy,

I'm a purist!  RIIIIIIGHT! see post in favorite riddum secshun.

All the young white boys talking smack?  Oh please.

Speaking of Warren Haynes..I think he is one of the most talented song writers out there! I'd like to see a list of all his songs. I'm crazy for "Heartaches.."    Cathy

What I heard was Joe played on stage with several other guitarists and Warren Haynes was the only one that showed Joe any respect.

Re: Just Got Paid

LOL, it's hard for egotistical guitar players to own up to the fact that Joe can play circles around them...that's prob why they never showed him respect.

Re: Just Got Paid

I really never have paid much attention to what genre people fit into.  Honestly, I wouldn't consider myself a big blues fan in the purist sense.   I know one thing though, I'd pay big bucks and travel to see those two hook up.   I don't know about the respect thing....However, of everyone I've seen play in my 44+ years of lifetime, I still think JB is the most talented.  Never got to see Gatton ... wish I had.  ( I keep Hot Rod Guitar on the iPod )  ..  SRV (close), the other 'rocker types' many times... I'd debate that one...still JB.   The kid puts his all into it.

Re: Just Got Paid

WharfRat:  Good ear....the morph from Just Got Paid into the Dazed & Confused is a direct quote from "Mule" by Gov't Mule, the little slide-y thing, then he repeats & moves it up a tone before slidin' into the part where he beats the strings ala Jimmy P. with the bow action.

I can't imagine in my wildest dreams that Warren would have anything negative to say about Joe and his approach to the blues.  In fact, one of the first bootlegs (thanks Jumpin' Jane Jarvis) I ever got was Bloodline with Warren as special guest.  As I recall, the sound quality was pretty bad, but he was there.  If I'm not mistaken (it happens) Warren wrote "Heartaches" but the guests on it are Leslie West and Gregg Allman on a few vocal parts and Gregg on organ.  I like the studio version....I LOVED the live version I was lucky enough to see quite a few times before it got retired from the setlist and then revisited acoustically.  I wish I could figure out the chord progression because I can actually sorta sing that one and it's a GREAT song.

Cathy....remind me to hook you up with some live Mule I've been able to download thanks to their greatly-appreciated taperfriendliness.  I know I'm not the ONLY Mule fan here....but this section is for Joe, so I'm done smile

Re: Just Got Paid

Warren is far from a blues purist himself. He approaches music in the same way Joe does, With an open mind. They both do amazing covers and make them their own. I believe Warren Co-wrote a song on the Bloodline cd.

I love this guy. One of my favorite songs of his is "Soulshine".  Great song.
