Topic: Floating Strat Bridge

I just remembered after watching the new Django vid that this is a question I keep wanting to ask, but keep forgetting...

How does Joe get his strat to stay in tune with a floating bridge?  Whenever I've tried it, it goes all out of tune and I end up reverting back to having it be non-floating... any suggestions for getting this to work?

Re: Floating Strat Bridge

Well Joe always uses a guitar exclusively for that song, either the sunburst maple-neck strat or the blue gigliotti GS. So it just has to stay in tune for one song only. I guess his guitar technician sets the guitar up to make some good use of the tremolo.
There's a couple of that would help a guitar with trem to stay in tune. Like using locking tuners. Applying some graphite (the black stuff from pencils) to the nut and saddles of the guitar so the strings can slide through more easily. Also the bridge needs to be level with the body when it's in it's resting position. So the tremolo springs and its spring claw need to be adjusted properly so that there's enough tension to pull the bridge into the right position.

We have just one world, but we live in different ones.

Ramonster is right.  It only needs to be in tune for one song. But it depends on the acutal guitar - some stay in tune better than others... I had a Dean Strat Copy with a floyd rose that stayed in tune really well with 9's on it.

Yeah that's a good point... I guess it does make sense that the bridge has to be level with the body too- I'll have to work on it...
