Topic: Hey, new to the forum and have a Silver Jubilee question...

I've had a 50 watt 2553 Marshall Silver Jubilee since before I got into Joe Bonamassa, so I was really psyched to hear that a great player like Joe uses the same amp as I do (more or less).

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone knows what tubes he uses in his Jubilees, what speakers in his cabs, and what (this is probably a long shot) settings he puts on the Marshall (Bass, Mids, Treble etc etc).

Thanks a ton

I believe he uses EV12L's for speakers.  He uses a custom cabinet (can't remember the name of it right now).  But the pre-amp gain is at about 10 o'clock with the master all the way up.

Hope that helps- Welcome to the board!

Ironically I think Zakk Wylde uses '8,6,4' b,m,t as well...another Marshall user.

Really?  Never knew that... I'm pretty sure he uses the EV12L's for speakers too

Anyone know what tubes?

Re: Hey, new to the forum and have a Silver Jubilee question...

I remember an interview with joe saying that he used Groove tubes in his Marshall, im not an expert on tubes so I dont know much more than that.  I always enjoyed Joe Marshall Tone better in his early days, especially on the ANDY Live album, then he was using standard marshall cabs.  Wlecome to the forum!

I actually think that was more a factor of what guitars he was using- the cabs themselves hardly matter- its almost 100% the speakers in the cabs that account for a big change in tone

Concur on the EV12L's for speakers.  I am actually looking into them as well--currently I have GB's, but between Joe  and Jake E. Lee has me thinking going to the non-distortion of the EV's.

The cab's are straight and larger for more beef in the tone.

I've heard GT's for tubes as well as Mullards.  Also heard they are only changed about every 3-4 months--seems odd for the amount of work they do.

Also Joe's main live SJ is of the Canadian variety--note the square indicator light and metal on/off switch.

I would like to clarify my statement above--When I referred to Jake E. Lee I was referring to his tone in Badlands.  Did not want to de-value tone-age.
