Topic: Some (very german!) Blues charts ....

I just got my copy of the german "Bluesnews" - magazine - and they printed a list of some Blues charts :

Hot Shot Records, Bremen:

1. Joe Bonamassa, Sloe Gin  (original spelling in the magazine: "Slo Gin") smile
2. Hazmat Modine, Bahamut
3. Richie Arnt, Rorymania

JPC charts:

1. Blues Company, Hot and ready to serve
2. Joe Bonamassa, Sloe Gin    (original spelling: "Slow Gin") smile
3. Robben Ford, Truth

Amazon Top 100:

1. Johnny Winter, Muddy Waters, James Cotton,  Breaking it up
2. Joe Bonamassa, Sloe Gin   (original spelling: "Slow Gin") smile
3. Robben Ford, Truth

Looks good - apart from the spelling ..... big_smile

Maybe I´ll write a little reader´s letter and tell the folks about SLOE Gin .... and I´ll tell them about the "blues in schools" programme, so they get something to write about Joe and spell the names right.
Good Sunday laugh!

Re: Some (very german!) Blues charts ....

Eva, we have a lot of catching up here to do!  Europe is ahead of us in their appreciation of a great blues artist.  I think I just read he was 3rd on our charts.
Thanks for starting the day off with that great news.
I am wrapping my Sloe Gin gifts right now.........got to keep spreading the word to my musically challenged freinds.

Eva, it's not the spelling that counts, it's the selling that counts! tongue

Eva,

The German part of me is very proud to see that Joe reamins among the top in Germany. The American part of me wants to see the same thing here. Oh well, just goes to show that European people have better taste than us.

Other topic, Roy: Does a part of your family really come from Germany/Austria ?! Cause your surname sounds VERY much like it ... smile

I´m not sure about the "better taste" thing ... just have a look at the "normal" charts and you won´t repeat that one wink.

Have a nice day!  Eva

Eva,
Thanks for the updates.  Is rap and hip-hop popular in Germany, especially in your age group?  When you go into a record store, is there one genre that dominates?

Oh yes, it is ... especially in the age group from 13 - 25 ...
But I think it´s still not as popular as in the US - we also have a lot of Pop Casting Bands here in Germany (lots of Shows like "Popstars" and "Deutschland sucht den Superstar" = "Pop Idol", "Star Search" etc.)  and german music starts to get more popular (especially a boy-band called "Tokio Hotel" ....).
I think it´s still Popmusic that dominates - with a lot of hip-hop and some "R&B" (NOT meaning "Rhythm and Blues"! wink).

So far the overview of german music culture ..... what about your county?!

Re: Some (very german!) Blues charts ....

Roy,

Isn't your last name Hebert? Is that pronounced (A-bear) as they do in the bayou? Thanks for the family background, looks like very good drinking stock genes. I may have you beat at that game being German/Welsh on my Dad's side and Irish/Swedish on my Mothers. My last name, Wilbert came straight out of Germany with my Great Grandfather. I must admit I feel most endured to my Mom's side and unfortunately never got to meet my Irish Grandfather as he passed away before I was born. My name is pronounced (Wil-bear), but only on Sat. afternoons up in Strawberry Canyon at Memorial stadium in Berkeley. Go Bears!!!, one of the highest and lowest seasons this year in the 40 years that I've been hooked on Cal football. Of course the Bears come second to the Buckeyes, I was born a Buckeye and I'll die a Buckeye.

                                                                                                             Merry Xmas Damnit!!!!!

                                                                                                             J Dawg

P.S. Eva, thanks for the hella big DANKE!

Re: Some (very german!) Blues charts ....

Oh wow, thanks for the family stories !
I don´t know how we got from "Blues charts" to family roots - but the result was very interesting and funny to read ... Roy and J Dawg both a fourth german ! smile
Don´t you wanna come over and do some "roots-research" - maybe in connection with a nice little Joe concert ?! You´re always welcome in the land of beer, sauerkraut and expensive cars ... wink
I think a lot of people from Europe tried their luck in America in the time your grandparents moved there - "the land of opportunity" .... Did you ever ask them about the reasons why they came to America?! They must have had a lot of stories to tell....

And, "way off topic" : Yeees, Albert Cummings, track 17 is very, very good! My favorite is "Barrelhouse Blues" - wasn´t that your favourite, too?! Must be the german roots,  haha ...    smile

Auf Wiedersehen!  wink    Eva

Eva, Joe is #1 on your blues chart (bravo). I'm curious about the #2 and #3, especially the Rorymania one. Can you tell us anything about them? Thanks Cathy

Hi Cathy,

The "Rorymania" - record is a tribute to Rory Gallagher -6 german musicians that normally play together with their own bands (they are called the "Bluenatics" with Richie Arndt, Henrik Freischlader, etc.)  came together and recorded some Rory-songs in their own style... I think they also went on tour together. You can see a picture of them here: http://www1.gitarrebass.de/magazine/070 … ymania.htm
The "Bluenatics" are known as THE german Bluesrock Band ... unfortunately I haven´t seen them  play live yet.

I don´t know the #2 record, but Hazmat Modine seems to be a Bluesband from New York - google says they play a mix of  "Blues, Rocksteady, Jazz und Bluegrass" ... whatever that is smile .

Greetz to you!    Eva
