I really hope Kenny Wayne Shepherd gets a grammy. I cannot believe Joe was not nominated after having two albums atop the billboard charts for blues. I remember this issue coming up last year. Joe might have mentioned that his albums are not considered blues as far as Grammy nominations go.... I don't know why, especially if the Billboard charts have him on the blues charts.

I didn't want to start a bawl of wax on that, but I wanted to show everyone who the nominee's were.  The 10 Days Out album/DVD was very good for KWS, and even better for Blues posterity. Definitely deserving of a Grammy award.

Re: 2008 Grammy Nominations

Thanks and HAPPY B-DAY!!!!!  I think if the grammys were to nominate Joe I would have a heart attack. I agree about the KWS. Jane took me to the show in Baltimore....Wonderful!...I am a fan of Joan Armatrading from long ago ("Down to Zero" era) but I haven't heard her blues CD. I can't dis any choices they've made...there's a wide range of talent there. Do you know where Joe's 2 CD's are on the BBBlues chart???   Cathy

Re: 2008 Grammy Nominations

Wow I'm really suprised Joe isn't up for a Grammy- I was sure he would be... too bad... there's some great talent on there though... but Joe should be there.

Re: 2008 Grammy Nominations

Absolutely no surprise.  Zero. Zip.  Cathy & I would be in ICU today if we were surprised.   Joe lives among the Hollywood set, he doesn't play their "game".  Sorry & glad at the same time Joe!  I won't write more because I would be in a bad mood if I did.

Re: 2008 Grammy Nominations

Does Joe have any control over these nominations?...Do we have any control over these nominations?...Is there anything we can do to help?...education?...petitions?...

Why do I feel so helpless on this one?...

Re: 2008 Grammy Nominations

I'm not at all surprised, but a little angry. mad
But, you know what?  Joe is getting bigger and bigger and bigger.  Before long, it will be impossible to ignore his talent.  And who knows? This World Blues Album may be the one.  I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I think we need to stop being surprised by this every year.  Independent labels hurt.  I'd rather Joe do what he wants, and not get the nominations.  Maybe thats just me.

I agree Chris.  Joe has his own agenda and doing quite well at it!

I also want Joe to keep doing what he wants to do.  All I'm saying is he deserves a little recognition. He may not even want this, but I want it for him.  He is too extraordinarily  talented to go unrecognized.  That's all I'm saying.

I agree completely Chris, but a nod in the right direction without some graft or RIAA crap or periphery hangers-on of less than nominal import exercising "influence" far beyond earned or tenured input would be more beautiful than a smogless day after a storm in winter in Southern California.
Without discounting the "biz", but being inclusive of the business aspects, it would be a welcome sign that music and recording  are becoming the new renaissance that both are furtively straining to be.  Yes, there are some great successes, heck Joe Bonamassa IS one to highlight.  But things could be better AND relevant...Not so-not quite yet...But...

Re: 2008 Grammy Nominations

If the Grammys were based on the Billboard Charts, there would be a majority of Latin winners...Check the Billboard top 100 (the free one).....I don't know how it is decided, but it's not the end-all of recognition....I agree that the internet has changed everything for the Indies....no middle man..But, I will watch the show, there's usually some good performances.  Just some thoughts, Cathy

Re: 2008 Grammy Nominations

Remember, these are the same people that awarded a Grammy to Milli Vanilli for best new "artist" and Jethro Tull for best Heavy Metal album (I loved JT, but heavy metal?).

Joe is breaking new ground one track and one fan at a time. If Robben Ford (love him, too) is blues enough for them, Joe has a shot down the road.

Blessings,

You are also right David.  I'm not saying that I don't wish he were nominated...he should be. I'm sure he will be there in the next few years tho.

Re: 2008 Grammy Nominations

Deja vu.

We had this discussion last year. We'll probably have it again next year. The Grammys are way overrated.

I'm just saying.

Re: 2008 Grammy Nominations

A lot of the Grammy politics was talked about at this time last year...so a "search" would probably cover that instead of re-posting.

I heard on NPR there is a lot of ballot stuffing and corporate interests involved with Grammys. Hence is why Hootie won in '95 and Kanye "I should've won" West was nominated 8 times.

It would help the blues if the Grammys recognized Joe. I know he is doing great and has his own agenda. It would be great to see him with a Grammy one day, and get the worldwide attention, on TV, etc.

Re: 2008 Grammy Nominations

I know this is a bit off topic, but since our desire is to get Joe some exposure....I was up late the other night and saw the start of the Carson Daly Show, from L.A....He is staying on-air despite the strike..but..there's no jokes, skits, etc. as he is also a member...I did see Alicia Keys...and he's had musical guests each night, (no union conflict) They do get extra air time????...Since J.B. is in L.A.????   Well, you know, when opportunity knocks...strike while the iron's hot....          Cathy

Yeah Cathy I like it, it's a nice idea & thought, but that hot iron might strike back one day, as it IS a strike, and it could be construed as or actually considered crossing the picket line. ... sad

Indeed.  The Grammy's have always been a joke.  These are just 2 of the more outrageous examples.  Beyond the publicity value (which I agree is significant), the awards mean nothing.
