Davie, Florida Custody Case

DAVIE, FLORIDA (AP) - A seven-year-old Davie, Florida boy was at the center
of a Fort Lauderdale courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court
ruling over who should have custody of him. The boy has a history of being
beaten by his parents and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt,
in keeping with child custody law and regulations requiring that family
unity be maintained to the degree possible.

The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him more
than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her. When the judge
then suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy cried out that
they also beat him.

After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning that
domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the judge took
the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should have
custody of him.

After two recesses to check legal references and confer with child welfare
officials, the judge granted temporary custody to the Miami Dolphins, whom
the boy firmly believes are not capable of beating anyone.

Re: Very Appropriate

Funny Susan...It's painful...my brother flew up from Florida for the Eagles game hoping to see Miami win in Philly, didn't happen, but he's a traitor, so...he also roots for the Gators now since his daughter goes there, over his own school in Penna....Cathy, I'm not sure if you saw the Ravens game Monday night, but lots of screaming at the refs going on in my house against those calls at the end of that game...Do men think the TV is going to respond to them when they YELL at it??? lol

Jeff, True Confessions: When the Colts left in the middle of the night and broke everybody's hearts..I stopped being vested...Then the Ravens came to be and won the Super Bowl, which was very nice. But, I'm only a fair weather fan now. I don't feel the respect for the modern players that I did for Artie Donavan and the great Johhny Unitas....It all just means I'm old. I do have 2, 20 something nieces that are diehards....As for today's game....(OUCH, just fumbled...) I'm glad skiing come on soon...I like that better. Cathy

Re: Very Appropriate

Your secret's safe with me.  My Father in law felt the same way.  He always said nobody could touch Mr. High Tops.  I've been a Dolfan since expansion days...tough row to...

HORY CLAP...They just won in overtime...

Sorry I fainted dead away.  I'm back now.  I need a smoke and a nap.  Somebody fetch my shawl.  or maybe my red dress.

Re: Very Appropriate

Any Cleveland fan will tell you they're not the Ravens there Modell's team and every loss is like a Cleveland win. Now whose gonna take custody of that kid????? I guess bringin' out the old 14-0 Dolphins was a good luck charm.

Re: Very Appropriate

Can you believe that Miami won this weekend?  I actually won the office football pool this week in spite of not picking them to win.  You know why, don't you?  Nobody else picked em either. lol

Go Dolphins!!!!!

From your lips...
A little over confidence on one end and a little determination on the other.  Not likely, but it could happen.  What a special game that would be.

I'll be rooting for them but I don't think I'll be picking them in the football pool this week.   lol

Right you are and the the reason the name stayed in Cleveland was the league let Modell take the team, but not the name, the colors, or the history with him since his request to move didn't fall under any of the leagues hardship criteria. To try to appease the distressed fans the league promised Cleveland they would get the next expansion team to come along. The deal was cut at the end of a runway in a private jet in Baltimore. I don't remember the exact amount of millions the city paid him, but it went straight into Modell's pockets and to sweeten the deal the original lease for the new stadium was $1.00 a year. Only a fool wouldn't have taken that deal.

PS Matt Stover is the last guy on the current roster that came over from Cleveland.

Funny thing is life.  One year, way back when, Tia and I came off an undefeated season coaching kid's soccer to find ourselves the following year with rookies & misfits. (City league).  The kids were fine.  They were teachable, but the parents made me lose my religion more than once.  (What little of it I practice.)

We lost every game that season and I listened to experts (parents) talk smack at me and I had to throw a leg over Ms. Tia to keep her from hurting some soccer mom.  Funny.

Until the last game...we obliterated the best team in the league 5-0.  Everything came together.  Every time we scored I would cast that 1000 meter stare at the bleachers and those biddies would just squirm.  The applause would die and the only sound on that field was the voice of Coach Jeff & Coach Tia.

When the final whistle blew, Tia was jumping up & down and pounding on me.  I pointed at the crowd and said now.  I'm sure they heard that explosion the next town over.  I just sat down & tried not to weep.  When we walked off that field the parents from both teams were still there, screaming their heads off and stomping those bleachers.

That memory is sweeter and clearer than the 3 undefeated seasons.  Ah vindication.  and I'm no super coach.  I'm just a regular guy who works hard every once in awhile.

I think you were at HR Cafe.  I was there with my Fedora on my head.

Much Love.  Go 'fins.  Merry Christmas.
Jeff
