Re: Favourite Guitarists

Paul "Tonka" Chapman.....didn't think I'd see that name on the list any time soon.  He ain't Schenker(but then again, WHO IS), but his stuff w/ UFO is excellent...never saw him live, but would have liked to.  That was a very good list.....I saw Gay Moore in Boston in 1987 and he was phenomenal.....I wish he'd play the states.

Chapman has quite the cojones.... before replacing Schenker in UFO (Mystery Train is a fekkin awesome track) Paul replaced Gary Moore in the ORIGINAL Skid Row at a time when Gary was considered as perhaps THE top young guitarist in the UK......

Re: Favourite Guitarists

That's true....I forgot about that.  Did that version of Skid Row ever record anything that is available to purchase today?

Paul came in and redid all the guitar parts on the long lost third Skid Row Album this one: http://www.garymoorefc.com/_/node/74

The Chapman recordings have not yet been released but of course the GM version was issued after Gary's still got the blues success to obviously" cash-in" on his popularity. I for one would love to hear and compare the Chapman versions!!! Also love to hear some live boots with Paul...

Of course the connection with Gary continues: John Sloman played in the Gary Moore Band early 80's and of course with Paul in LoneStar late 70's..... (Love the LoneStar version of the Beatles She Said She Said.......

What a tangled web LMAO.....

Re: Favourite Guitarists

"I saw the Jeff Beck gig at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London on Thursday night (29 November 2007). In the audience were Brian May, Tony Iommi, Jon Bon Jovi and Jimmy Page."  Clapton ended up on stage w/Jeff. Who will show up in the Zep audience or maybe even guest?  Anyone ever been to this Ronnie Scott's Club, they don't always serve straight up jazz?

Only 3 for me that played/play as much with their hearts as their hands. Rory Gallagher, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Joe Bonamassa.

Honorable mention: Walter Trout, Chris Duarte and Albert Cummings.

I agree with all of those and add Frank Marino and this:

Re: Favourite Guitarists

HF-A couple of your mentions are really taking me back, Leo Kottke, Les Dudex...really liked him...wore out the vinyl on this album!! big_smile
http://www.lesdudek.com/disco/snm.htm
And David Bromberg...saw him a few times, once at a very small club, The Main Point, in Penna. which hosted many who went on to be famous. (Cat Stevens, Bruce, Bonnie, etc.) Bromberg makes custom violins now in Delaware & still plays. He showed up as a surprise to Bonnie's last stop on her tour in Del. a couple of years ago.

In addition to those not covered by everyone else's list...

Robert Cray
George Harrison
Robby Krieger

Joe paid high compliments to Sonny Landreth, one of the best on slide,  yesterday on Sirius #74. He played "Congo Square" (live).

amsterhammer-got your e-mail, will send the Bonnie CD, just a little behind. smile

Re: Favourite Guitarists

Speaking of David Bromberg..."My band", Nothin But Trouble recorded at a theater in Delaware and he was there. He likes them so much he's talking about having them record some blues songs that he has written.     Sonny Landreth..my fav slide player (has replaced Ry Cooder at the top)..Finally has a DVD in the works. If you haven't seen him, it's a must. Then there's the kid from Back Door Slam, 21 and amazing. And finally I love the Hoax boys and Aynsley Lister.....and about a million more...JB remains my all round champ and doubt he'll be knocked off the top of the mountain.                        Cathy

Re: Favourite Guitarists

Hello Angela,

les Dudek,

He's great too.
Best songs: Sad Clown and What a sacrifice?

Have 3 Lp's  :
- Les Dudek
-Say no more
-Ghost town parade.

This is really nice: have so much music from the guitarist mentioned on this item, now I'll start listening again to them!!
Almost forgotten I had it all.

Thanks people!

Andre Wittebroek.
