Topic: 10 gallon hat failure

in my quest for footage of Joe playing "revenge of the 10 gallon hat" i fear i have failed sad
Pardon my ignorance, but is there a reason that Joe doesn't play it live?
How good what that have looked on a DVD like Rockpalast......what about Rockpalast II.
And if one of you guys have got this clip you GOTTA share it with us!
Joe, please tell me it's on the play list for the UK tour early next year. big_smile

Re: 10 gallon hat failure

Not a failure, just a disappointment.  I guess you got to take the bad with the good Le Zarb... I think he MAY have played it once, and only once.  I'm not sure, and if it was I don't think it's in any form of audio / video posterity...
Regarding adding it, I just can't see tossing out Woke Up Dreaming from the setlist and I can't fathom Joe playing both in one night...Not even Joe!  But I digress, who knows, on all accounts?!

Hope i'm not coming across as a moaning ba**ard.
it's just that from the moment i first heard the track i thought that i'd love to have seen it played live.
I'm certain Gatton would have been proud!
and it's a shame that it only exists on audio......but hey better on audio that not at all.
but you never know?

Re: 10 gallon hat failure

In addition to 10 Gallon Hat, I've always really liked "It's On You" and still hope it will show up on a CD someday...

Gatton would've been proud and he might've had a friendly lawsuit too! Just kidding, Le Zarb & Joe, but there definitely is a portion that is nearly a direct lift...
Regarding moaning-Nah, no worries! We all do a little moaning around here, bleepers or not! You are in no way alone in your desire.  Jane is right, it's really a toss up what gets to the live setlist.  To be honest, there really is no "stalwart" song that has been always and will always be in the setlist...The contenders seem to sharply disappear at an unmarked time.  "Walk In My Shadows" is a long time contender, but it did go away for a while and resurfaced in a down tempo shuffle from what it was...So, would it even be the same???!!! Intriguing at least.

I don't believe that I have seen a show yet (since Dec. 2004) without Mountain Time on the setlist.

LeZarb,
From the moment I started listening to Joe (and blasting it through our house), that was my wife's favorite song of Joe's. After awhile and a few live shows she switched to The River, but TGH is still one of her favorites.

True, Bill, but do you recall it was being called for, no blatantly and plaintively begged for, for at least a year and a half!!! I believe there actually was weeping and gnashing of teeth...Then it became a different arrangement...

Sweet Jane: (wink) If you look at the track listing for "Had To Cry Today" I believe you will find it, around Track 6.  Yes, I remember the internet bonus link you're referring to, but it later showed up on a CD.  Danny G. would have been proud of his young protege, no doubt.

Re: 10 gallon hat failure

Not many people witnessed it and even fewer recognised it but Joe slipped into a Ten Gallon Hat like jam in Ardmore Oklahoma. It was at Two Froggs grill at an after show jam. Wes Jeans and Joe were trading licks and Joe went off into a Danny Gatton, TGH riff. Wes's jaw dropped and he took his hands off his guitar and watched awestruck.

Ten Gallon Hat was a track I don't believe has ever been thought about as a song to be included in the live set. Maybe Joe will choose to incorporate it in an extended jam at some future date. Just another lick in the Joe B bag of tricks. Too many licks to include in any one night.

Yes it is a favorite of mine. Even released as a single on Itunes. Could be Joe B's Pride and Joy.

I, for one, hope that there is NEVER a song that Joe keeps in his setlist forever. Joe can get away with a loooong run with a lot of his songs, because they are constantly evolving. Mountain Time, Woke Up Dreaming and Walk in My Shadow are all great examples of that. However, evolution is necessary. Where would we all be without opposable thumbs?

Boy It's hard to feed you a post to reply sometimes Jim... smile  I capitalized MAY to try to get you to chime in as I thought for sure it WAS Ardmore (knew it was in OK at least) with Wes Jeans...Thanks Jim!

I guess I have told the story before Rocket. You and Jane the resident Board Historians. Maybe it was in the chat room. It seemed like a long time ago and still not sure if I wasn't dreaming.
