Topic: "Breakfast with the Beatles"

My sister in law set up brunch for my 3 brothers, myself and our families yesterday. Turns out the brunch had a Beatles tribute band playing. I was pleasantly surprised as they were quite good. They go by the name "The Cavern Beat" and played mostly older stuff. I think the newest thing they played was off of Rubber Soul.
3 sets of about an hour each, although half of us left after the second set.
Has anyone ever seen one of these Beatles tribute bands? It was my first time.
They were selling cd's, which seemed very odd to me. Why would anyone buy a cd from a tribute band when you could go and buy the real thing? Price?
I understand covers, but these guys were trying to sound exactly like the Beatles records and were pretty damn close.
Anyway, it was an entertaining way to spend a few hours on a Sunday afternoon.
Then I went home and watched the most exciting football player in the league almost single handedly beat the Denver Broncos!

I have not seen this band, but have seen some very good coverbands over the years.I do agree on whats the point of buying a cd of exact copies of the originals. It would be different if the covers were re arranged.

Bill, when I read the title I thought this post was about Terry Hemmert from XRT. She has (or had) a show on Sunday mornings called Breakfast with the Beatles.

I've never been to a brunch that had a rock band. How unusual!

I'm just saying.

Breakfast with Bonamassa sounds tasty to me!!!

Re: "Breakfast with the Beatles"

Sounds like a fun time Bill and I've seen many a Beatle tribute band and have to admit, I never bought their CD's.  The Breakfast with the Beatles concept started in Philadelphia with a radio DJ named Helen Leight.  She's moved around a little bit from station to station and many others have adopted her idea of playing Beatle music on Sunday mornings or other mornings.  I still listen to Breakfast with the Beatles on Sunday morning, by another dj and sometimes I do my own version while making pancakes or omelets.

Nancy,
I totally stole that from Hemmert. I knew Chicago people would recognize me as a plagiarist!

Angela,
I don't know when Helen started, but I know Terry Hemmert in Chicago is a HUGE Beatles fan and was doing a "Breakfast with the Beatles" show (also Sundays) at least as early as the late 70's. Maybe she stole the idea from Helen!
