Topic: Rockville 10/19/07

Another great show by Joe and the band.   I had my mother and 15 year old cousin with me(Joe virgins) and they sat jaws dropped for most of the show.  It was pretty much the same set list as the last few shows, but different songs get different treatment each night, such that it feels like a different show.

The room was very hot and the acoustics were so-so but it was a very warm, respectful, admiring crowd.  When Joe would play quietly, you could've heard a pin drop, which was a pleasant change after Richmond where Joe would ask for quiet and not get it.

As I write this, my Joe t-shirts are in the dryer getting ready for the trip to Staten Island tonight and New Jersey tomorrow night.  4 shows, 4 states, 4 days!  By my best estimation, I'll have driven about 1000 miles when all is said and done, and it's worth every mile.  How does Joe do 150 shows a year and make each one so incredible when I get tired just from watching?????

When the weekend is over, and I've recovered from my Bonamania outbreak, I'll get around to posting some pictures.  I got some decent shots in Richmond, and mostly took last night off to watch, but I'll get some tonight and tomorrow, including Cathy's favorite, the Gigliotti pictures.

I JUST GOT A PHONE CALL THAT MY BUDDY WHO WAS SUPPOSED TO COME WITH ME CAN'T MAKE IT DUE TO A FAMILY EMERGENCY.  THAT MEANS I HAVE AN EXTRA FRONT ROW TICKET FOR TONIGHT AND 2ND ROW FOR TOMORROW.  IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED, CALL ME ON MY CELL PHONE AT 410-215-3373.

Bonamania is a disease with no cure.  Give it to all your friends.

Thanks Rob! I love it when the audience "gets it". What a great Bonaventure you're on!

Re: Rockville 10/19/07

Last night was my 7th or 8th Joe Bonamassa concert in two years, and I had the absolute pleasure of introducing a friend to Joe's talent. Another fan added to the fold!
Last night's show was so different from anything else I've seen before ... Joe you had that audience mesmerized from the first note and you never let us go until the final bow. I think back to the first time I saw and heard you play ... September of 2005 at Sweet Caroline's in Winchester, VA (does the phrase "food poisoning" bring the evening's experience back? As I recall the three of you had eaten something not-quite-right on the way to Winchester).
Your sound is so big, getting bigger, I can only think that bigger venues and ventures aren't too far away.
Enjoyed meeting Crosby Loggins last night and listened to his CD today ... he's a great addition to the fold as well!

Hi Karen! Welcome and good recruiting! No need 2 worry, Crosby Loggins it is.  Perhaps (yup) recalling food poisoning ( yikes ) took over your memory?! You can EDIT a post if you are logged in.  I have to edit a lot because of the timing differences between brain & fingers (SEE! Oooopss I did it again!)...Gotta wonder B-More Bonamaniac, maybe Joe had a few moments he didn't wish he was in Richmond, eh?! I still wish I had been though.  Sounds like Rockville was a keeper all around, eh?!!! wink

Hey Karen, glad you enjoyed the concert.  We were at the 05 Sweet Caroline's show, and Kenny was in bad, very bad shape.  Even on the last song, Dennis the guitar tech, had to play the drums.

Music is good for the Soul...

Re: Rockville 10/19/07

Rockville was my 4th Joe B show (3 as a headliner, and 1 opening for Tull Way Back When when I discovered him).   I really liked the addition of the keyboardist; adds a layer of texture to even older songs that was quite good (and luckily quite subtle).  Every time I see him I'm in awe of the guitar skills shown.
Sound was really balanced 12 rows back in the center, but (and maybe this is age showing), was a bit too loud for that sized room.

Other people have commented on the quality of the crowd, but we were great  :-) allowing the guitar/drum duets to really, really work.

Band was amazing, vocals less so.  By the time the final acoustic encore of "Miss You Hate You" came along, his vocal cords were already on the bus.  Love the song; that particular iteration didn't do a thing for me.

Anyone have a set list?

Rick,

Go to the post for the Richmond show,2nd page David A list setlist.Rockville had the same setlist including encores

Re: Rockville 10/19/07

I'm bumping an old thread since I thought I should post as much of the set list as I can remember:

Bridge to Better Days
Walk in my shadows
So Many Roads
Mountain Time
Another Kind of Love
Sloe Gin
Highwater Everywhere acoustic
If Heartaches Were Nickels acoustic
Woke up Dreaming acoustic
Django
Just Got Paid
Led Zep song
Bogie drum solo
Ball Peen Hammer 12 string
Asking Around for You
Miss You, Hate You acoustic

Very comprehensive set, and I really enjoyed Bogie's solo.  I was satisfied with the acoustics at Montgomery College as well.  I also enjoyed Woke Up Dreaming as usual...I can't seem to get enough of that song.  It's probably one of my favorite from the set list.

To be honest, I like the new set list, but I wish Joe would play some of his older songs as well.  Some examples include Takin' a Hit, The River, Burning Hell and Had to Cry Today.  I like the higher intensity stuff I guess.

Anyways, it was a great show, and I wish all his shows were this long!
