Topic: Lewis Taylor

I noodle in my music library a lot lately and ran across someone that didn't ring a bell.  His name is Lewis Taylor and his story is an incredible one of genius and elusive fame. One of two songs I had was covered more recently by the young blue eyed soul singer, Robie Williams.  I like that song "Lovelight" and started looking into Mr. Taylors catalog and story.  After the dust settled I had bought 3 of his albums.  He's had a huge influence on other multi-instrumentalists like Tom Misch and a real diamond in the rough.  His eponymous self-titled first album was critically praised in the UK, but somehow didn't pan out in the U.S.  He was around for less than 8 years before he "retired".
He's coming out with a new album this year that sounds pretty good from the teasers.

His Lost Album really deviates from his earlier Motown heroes.  Not quite a 180 but close.
Here he's definitely tapping into Brian Wilson, Something/Anything Todd Rundgren and the New Radicals.

I'll stop after this but this song just floored me,  Pretty much just Taylor on acoustic guitar covering his own song quite differently from the electric first album.  I can envision a living room type setting with Marvin toe-tappin' along.  Very soulful stuff.

just stunning all of it. He has one of those voices that really stands out and moves you. He also reminds me a lot of a softer Terrence Trent D'Arby or whatever he calls himself now. If you like Lewis then you should pick up a copy of Terrence's Symphony or Damn. It is all loaded on Utube. I will play one on what are you listening to right now. He plays every instrument on the album

I’ve decided his Lost Album is his best among an impressive catalog.  Although not as soulful/R&B as the others, the Lost Album harkens back to a time when the music was played in its entirety and no filler.
He did this LP a la Todd Rundgren playing all the instruments, vocals, etc, etc.
I went online a bought a commemorative cd of this masterpiece.  This is the album to put on in the car for a long drive or with you on a desert island.  Yeah, that good.
If a new album is for real and he promotes it with a tour then I’m going to go see him.
I’ll go overseas if I have to.
