Topic: Electric for an 11 year-old

A friend of mine has asked for guitar recommendations for her son. I suggested an Art & Lutherie Ami as an acoustic. She mentioned that her son may be more interested in an electric.

I don't have a lot of experience in electrics. Can you please suggest some low-cost but good electric guitars that would be appropriate for smaller players?

Thanks for your help.

Art&Lutherie are part of the Godin family,  not bad guitars,
Norman, A&R,  Simon&Patrick , Seagul, then Gondin, for a family lineage. ($ to $$$).

You'd be best to find out what he listens to.

If he listens to Korn, then recommending a Strat style would probably be a bad idea.

If he listens to Rory Gallagher than a Strat style would be a good choice.

Many "lower end" play well, but many need a good setup that could cost almost the price a low end guitar.

I have a used Chinese Strat in the trunk of my car I bought for $50, has a great neck

Low end guitars watch for sharp fret ends

Both Fender and Epiphone have starter packs,

Most new Epiphone Les Paul,s are very well made and finished well. SG style guitars I would recommend Vintage as a make. For a strat or telecaster style Squire guitars are a good make. All need to be set up correctly but will perform well. Hope this helps. big_smile
