Topic: Buddy Guy & "Kingfish" Ingram as opener

We saw Buddy Guy last night at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA. Buddy put on a really good show. Nice to see him at a smaller place. Ran into Bob, "the General", there and he joined us for the night. Let us get seated with his line number so we ended up in front. Great view for filming. Buddy frequently cuts his song short, he spoke of this and actually completed most of the songs smile. There was a young Bluesman, 14 yrs old, by the name of "Kingfish" Ingram who opened the show along with keyboardist Daryl Davis. Kingfish did a great job, will be great to watch his career develop. He and Davis are going to be putting a recording out soon.

Been wanting to see Buddy Guy for awhile now! Saw BB King this past summer and was blown away! I can only imagine Buddy will put on a great show as well! Glad to hear you had a good time smile

A pal just passed on his primo loft seats at Belly Up to see Buddy in 2 weeks. big_smile I'm looking forward to it since last year he was ill and only did a bit before he had to leave the stage. Flu it turned out but we all were very concerned. A living treasure he is.

Chris Ingram has chops and there's no doubting that. I WISH I could have played like that at 50 years old let alone 14. But so many of the young up and comers have a 'more is better' style to their playing and I am absolutely not trying to diss anyone, but we are so influenced by the speed of great players that some of the younger ones don't really understand why that speed is there at times, what it's purpose is and how it influences the music and listener. Sometimes they just feel faster is better. As someone once said, "Now that we can all play fast, let's see who can play good". No doubt in time this young man will develop a sense of musicology and rise to amazing guitar player status.

As always thanks to Natasha for opening our eyes to yet another guitar player we will have to follow closely.

Ive watched quite a few You Tube videos on Kingfish, he is near the top of my list of have to see.....

First, thanks for the author of this thread tracking an early review of a 14 year old Kingfish.  Also thanks to Shredit for putting it up.

As for my thoughts on NickelWound's post I'd have to say I'm in 100% agreement.  The "more is better" approach young guitar players employ just doesn't get my attention any more.  In the case of Christone it's obvious he's figured out there's a balance of tone. feel and get down.  There's too many artists imo that are just going through the motions making the genuine article that much more special.  I'd say the new album (Kingfish) is a breakthrough, but I'll be more interested where he takes his talent on the next album.
