Topic: A Bob Lefsetz Comment

For those of you not familiar with him, he is a former entertainment lawyer turned music industry commentator.  He sends out an email newsletter and quite frankly has some amazing insights into the music business today.  Here's a link to sign up for his newletter.  http://www.lefsetz.com/

The reason I bring this up, he reviewed the Country Music Awards the other night and one of the comments he made instantly reminded me of Joe Bonamassa.  He said "It's about creating a body of work, so when someone discovers you, they can go back and revel in all your previous work".  This is precisely what happened to me after hearing Sloe Gin.  I went to Itunes and downloaded everything available, and I have not been disappointed at all.  smile

I cannot wait for next Friday!

Re: A Bob Lefsetz Comment

Hi maria, it's funny you would mention such a thing. I have a sister and brother in-law who live in Texas. I recently visited them as I was in Dallas for the SRV gig that Joe played at. They were surprised i would go to Tulsa first to see this musician I've been raving about, then drive to Dallas the next day for the next show. My brother in-law plays some everyday, has a small amp and electric guitar ( a gibson of my sort), my sis says he's good , but to shy to play in front of a crowd. So I tell em about Joe and the band, and there looking at me like "man I've heard of a midlife crisis, but I'd never take Dave to follow some musician around". Now when my wife jumped into the conversation and reaffirmed my convictions, they were all ears, Deb doesnt show much emotion unless she's yelling at me....lol

So I get this text message a week ago from my sis, seems they went and picked up the "Rockpalast" DVD. Well they are going crazy, my brother in law is hitting the replay button so often they took quite awhile to watch it all. Now there e-mailing me with enough questions, that I had to end up calling them on the phone. By this time they might have most of the cds, definetly "sloe gin", I told them to pick that one up first. I've had people tell me..  "I never heard of Joe ...who?...whats his last name?"...and blow me off because he cant be THAT GOOD, if I aint heard of him. Then theres my friend at work who went crazy the first time i lent him "Blues Deluxe". He now has evrything but some "bloodline" in his collection. In fact broke out his cartoon shirt of Joe yesterday, and took a good ribbing from all the other workers, they said to stay away from me, they dont want to catch that "JOE" bug from us...Guess what I got on my "sloe gin" t-shirt underneath my postal shirt, i got to rub it in at work, makes for a happy work place....;)
