Topic: Tom Misch

Thought I'd take a chance and post something about this guy as I think he's going to be big.
He'll be playing at Clapton's Crossroads and this video underscores his guitar talent.  Not a vocalist
like Joey Landreth, but the kid can play.  One thing I especially like is his talent doesn't get in the way
of his songs. 
It's early, but his Geography album is my favorite album I've heard this year.  Checking him out I saw that Barrack
Obama loved the album too.
This video captures his guitar playing talent of loops and lead playing in front of a stellar band.  Hope some of you

Just last night I was listening to the Tiny Desk video.  Can't seem to get enough of TM's music.
For the life of me I can't compare him to anybody.  I know John Mayer was a big influence, but at times I hear a little Peter Frampton.  Jazz guys come to mind too like Joe Beck or John McLaughlin.  At the end of the day the music just sends me away.
Would love to hear him just take off on guitar, but it's all about the groove for Mr. Misch.
Found another video where he's playing over recorded music and pretty much lets loose at 2:44.  Very good.

I know what you mean; jazz (or "fusion") is an itch I haven't scratched much, but I'm  hearing the tightness of George Benson and some of Jeff Beck's lesser known noodlings. There's also an album from way back from my old faves The Shadows (and that's a name-drop on here), Rockin' With Curly Leads, which has this sort of "jazzy" experimentation in places.

It is kind of out the comfort zone, but it's intriguing as intoxicating - whatever the guy's doing, it works...

I have to realize most forum members rarely become acquainted with an album like this, but
after listening repeatedly to Geography I've got to get the word out about Tom Misch.  In his early 20's, he's just scratching the surface
of his talent.  His phrasing and tone on guitar is well beyond his years.
Btw, he plays a John Mayer Stratocaster and has said JM's a strong influence on his music.  I wholeheartedly agree on that one, but Misch's music is much more layered and restrained than pretty much any guitarist I've ever come across. 

The album Geography falls into a definite top ten list for me.  I like it that it's a modern R&B/Jazz production that appeals to a very large audience of both young and old.  I've come across a link to the entire album and highly recommend good quality earbuds and an adult beverage to properly listen to it. 

The intro starts the album perfectly stating one's love for music and that it's not about getting the check, but playing that's the driving force.

I remember watching that vid of Tom and FKJ and seeing the comment you posted.  Yesterday I was doing my thing searching new music that interests me and I took a long look at FKJ.  This is Electronic music at a very creative level that I find very calming.  It seems all these multi-instrumentalists are very young (25ish) and are modern day Jim Morrisons, Lennons.

Probably my two favorite musicians right now, playing together on this little jam.  This song's off Tom Misch's Beat Tape 2 album.  After listening to this repeatedly, I wonder if this is the tune that Clapton got intro'd to.  Might be the best four plus minutes I've ever brought to this forum.  The guitar playing by TM is proof that it's the notes that count, not the speed, or showmanship.  Like my old English mates used to say to me....gobsmacked!

Jordan reminds me of a blend of Stevie Wonder and Sting.  The rhythm guitarist and bassist are in Tom's band.  A special mention to whoever put this video together.  It is both intimate and artistic.  There's serious playing going on and a performance far superior to the album recording.
