Topic: Blue-Eyed Soul

Anderson East.  Restores my faith in music.  This is a stripped down version that showcases the emotion this guy puts into his songs.  His album Delilah was recorded at Fame studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama and is strongly recommended.

Re: Blue-Eyed Soul

Following Curby's recommendation, caught Anderson East last night on his short headline tour (UK & Germany), and was totally blown away; this guy is the real deal; if Joe Cocker & Aretha Franklin had a kid, this is he; such power and emotion, yet perfect control, and backed by a smokin' six piece band that were with him every step, from the explosive 3 song build-up that culminated in Geroge Jackson's Find 'Em, Fool 'Em & Forget 'Em that had the audience roaring, to the slower, moodier All I'll Ever Need then turning it back up to 11 for a stormin' cover of Knock On Wood, taking it back from Bowie's "plastic soul" and handing it back to Eddie Floyd. Determined to get the audience up out the "cabaret"-style seating, Anderson tried some banter with his audience, but Nashville meets Newcastle is a hell of a language barrier, but soon there was a great rapport, especially when the band left the stage and Anderson did a couple of stripped down numbers including a sublime What A Woman Wants To Hear. Things built back up with Devil In Me, then the band exploded into a cover of Stay With Me which was the equal of The Faces at their best. From their to the end of the encore, the band just romped, great backline, blazing solos from the keys, the sax, the trumpet & lead guitar, the band was on fire and Anderson's voice roared and howled as he gave his all. One of those nights you just felt something special was happening. Thanks for the tip-off Curby.
