Topic: "Redemption" Blues or bluesy/Country?

Just listened to the whole album...My opinion... bluesy/Country!! Surprised I saw in EPK or Interview with JB or Kevin Shirley that this is all Blues even though written in Nashville...imho...least Blues...Most Country album JB has ever done!!!! Not saying I don't like it...or there are not some Blues songs on it...Love Evil Mama, Redemption, Jus cos you Can, Love is a Gamble and others...But Pure Blues....Ummm not really...I think Chris Stapleton could have easily done mostly the same album..what do you guys think??

Interesting comments, maybe there’s something for everyone on Redemption.
(Think you probably mean Kevin Shirley.)
Haven’t listened to album yet so I’ll reserve judgement.

The Ghost Of Macon Jones is the most obvious. And I have blabbed in here on my distaste for country music. But also stated I would keep an open mind.I do like that track a lot.So there you go.Not too Country for me.I Here some country influences in the album but not that much. After a couple go throughs I haven’t got that as an overall major influence.

Love the album, with mama o one of the best for me.Self inflicted wounds is great, but prefer the live version.Just cos you can is another i like a lot.Overall i like every song which is unusual for me.Always find one or two that don't resonate.

I haven't gotten through the full album yet, but I don't hear much country on the 9-10 tacks I've heard so far.  Very bluesy, though.  IMHO it feels like one of his most bluesy records in a long time.  Modern blues, to be sure, and lots of influences creeping in, but that's the nature of music.  I'd personally call it blues.  Other recent (last 10 years) albums I'd call blues/rock.  Doesn't really matter, it's a personal thing.  Categorizing music is kind of a fools' errand anyways.

For the record, I do listen to and enjoy a lot of country, particularly acoustic/traditional country (Hank Williams Sr.) and alt-country (Lucinda Williams, etc); but it's a wide genre.
